Let me share something that completely shifted how I approach my business—and how my most successful clients approach theirs.
I just got back from a business event where the speaker opened with this truth: the one thing all successful entrepreneurs have in common is that they’ve fallen in love with solving problems.
Not avoiding them. Not spiraling over them. Actually loving the process of figuring things out.
This hit me hard because I see so many talented wellness practitioners—physical therapists, yoga teachers, health coaches, nutritionists—get completely derailed by problems in their business. A workshop that doesn’t fill. A launch that underperforms. A month that falls short of revenue goals.
And here’s what happens: instead of treating it as useful data, they make it mean something about whether they’re cut out for entrepreneurship at all.
You’re Already a Problem-Solving Expert
Here’s what I need you to understand: you already do this brilliantly with your clients.
Think about it. A client comes to you with a problem—chronic pain, digestive issues, mobility limitations, stress and burnout. You don’t take it personally. You don’t spiral about whether you’re good enough to help them.
Instead, you bring curiosity. You ask questions. You gather information. You look for patterns. You test approaches. You adjust based on what’s working.
You’re naturally good at problem-solving. You just need to bring that same energy to your business instead of making every setback mean something about your worth as an entrepreneur.
The Real Problem with Problems
The problem is never actually the problem.
Let me say that again: the problem is never actually the problem.
The real issue is what you’re making the problem mean.
When you make a failed workshop mean “I’m not cut out for this,” you can’t think strategically. You’re operating from your limbic system—that fight-or-flight response—instead of your prefrontal cortex where strategic thinking happens.
But when you approach it with curiosity—”Huh, that didn’t work the way I expected. What can I learn here?”—you stay in problem-solving mode. You can actually fix things instead of just feeling bad about them.
I’ll be honest with you. My last Instagram Message Makeover Clinic launch? I signed some amazing clients (who I’m thrilled to work with), but I didn’t hit my enrollment goal. I was close, but not there.
I could have spiraled. I could have made it mean my offer wasn’t good enough or that people don’t want what I’m teaching.
Instead, I treated it as data. I got coaching. And I discovered something huge: several people thought “message makeover” meant I was teaching DM strategy. They didn’t realize I was talking about their core messaging—the words they use to attract clients.
That’s a messaging problem I can fix. That’s gold. That clarity is going to make my next launch so much stronger.
And I only got there because I approached it with curiosity instead of crisis.
The Three Benefits of Problem-Solving Mentality
Benefit #1: You’ll stop spiraling and start strategizing.
Instead of spending Sunday night eating ice cream from the carton wondering if you should quit, you’ll spend 20 minutes figuring out what to adjust. You get your time back—time to actually fix things, time with your family, time to not feel terrible.
Benefit #2: You’ll make better business decisions.
When you’re in crisis mode, you make fear-based decisions. You might lower your prices because you think people won’t pay. You might overdeliver to the point of exhaustion trying to prove your worth. You might avoid launching anything again because what if it fails?
But when you’re in curiosity mode, you make strategic decisions. You look at data. You test. You adjust. You learn. You try again. This is actually how you grow faster.
Benefit #3: You become magnetic to ideal clients.
Here’s something we don’t talk about enough: clients can feel when you’re confident in your problem-solving abilities. They feel it in your sessions. They trust you.
But they also feel it in your marketing and selling. When you treat challenges as interesting puzzles instead of proof you’re a failure, you show up differently. You talk about your work differently.
You’re not desperate or apologetic. You’re the practitioner who says, “Interesting. Here’s what I think is happening. Let me try this approach.”
That confidence? That’s what makes people want to work with you. Not just for their health problems, but because they see you navigate challenges and they want to feel that way too.
Strategy #1: The Client Mirror Method
Next time something doesn’t go as planned—maybe a workshop has low attendance, or you don’t convert as many consultation calls as you hoped, or you hit $5K in a month when you were aiming for $10K—do this:
Write down what happened. Just the facts.
“My workshop had 3 registrants instead of 15.”
“I had 4 consultation calls and signed 1 client.”
“I made $5,200 this month instead of $10,000.”
Then ask yourself: If this was my client’s problem, what would I ask them?
Pretend you’re the practitioner and this is someone else’s business. What questions would you ask to figure out where the breakdown is?
For the workshop, you might ask:
- How many people did you invite directly?
- What was your messaging? Did people understand the promise?
- When did you start promoting it and how frequently?
- Did you follow up with people who seemed interested?
- What format was it? Is it what your audience actually wants?
You see how this shifts you from “I’m a failure, no one wants my workshops” to “There’s useful information to gather here”?
This works for everything. Low Instagram engagement? Ask yourself: Was the messaging clear? Was the format engaging? Was the value obvious? Was the timing right?
I do this constantly. There was a time when my consultation conversion rate was 20-30%. Not terrible—enough to sign clients and start building toward consistent five-figure months. But when I shifted to 60-80% conversion (some months I hit 100%), everything changed.
I showed up to coaching calls week after week saying, “Okay, this happened on the call. What can I learn?” It wasn’t fun. It was uncomfortable. But that year of curiosity and adjustment gave me years of better results.
If you’re struggling with getting consultations booked or converting them into paying clients, understanding your pricing strategy and how you present your offers can make a massive difference in your conversion rates.
Strategy #2: The Five-Question Problem Protocol
When something doesn’t work, ask yourself these five questions:
- What actually happened? (Facts only, no drama)
- What was I expecting to happen?
- What’s the gap between those two things?
- What are three possible reasons for that gap?
- What’s one thing I could do differently next time?
Here’s the key for question four: the three possible reasons cannot be about your inherent worthiness as a human.
They have to be clear, objective things like:
- “My messaging wasn’t clear enough”
- “I didn’t promote it early enough or frequently enough”
- “The offer format might not match what my audience needs right now”
NOT things like:
- “I suck”
- “People don’t want to work with me”
- “I’m not meant to be a business owner”
This protocol helps you collect actual useful data instead of just collecting evidence that you should quit.
Many wellness practitioners I work with struggle with this exact thing—they’re brilliant at their craft but make every business challenge mean something about their abilities. Learning to shift from practitioner thinking to CEO thinking is one of the most important mindset shifts you can make.
Your Homework This Week
Pick one thing in your business that’s currently making you spiral. Or if last month didn’t go the way you hoped, use that.
Step 1: Pretend your business is a client. Approach it with curiosity and detachment.
Step 2: Work through the five questions above.
Step 3: Pick ONE of your answers from question four and implement a change based on it.
That’s it. Small tweaks. Small shifts. Week after week, year after year. That’s literally how I’ve grown my business and helped my clients do the same.
You’re already a problem-solving genius—you do it for your clients all the time. Now let’s bring that same skill into your business.
