How to Prepare Your Wellness Business for Summer (And Have Your Best Revenue Months)

Table of Contents

Summer is going to be here before you know it. How to prepare your business for summer so you can have one of your best revenue months through the summer—it’s possible. Been done personally. Helped numerous clients do it.

And the best part: they’re not overworking, they’re doing it within their ideal hours, they’re taking breaks.

Most summers, 2-3 weeks off taken during the whole summer, and still have peak revenue months and clients still get results. Not a special snowflake. You can do it too.

Feeling especially motivated because just came back from a trip—taking time off to attend coach DL Sharon’s (woman of color coach) mastermind conference in Miami. What a fun city. Love that city. It’s like San Diego but on the East Coast. A little bit different of course, but has some San Diego vibes. (Always love Florida—not the politics so much, that’s a whole other thing—but do love Florida and the ocean there, the warm water. Family’s there, so large part of heart is in Florida. Do love Miami.)

The conference itself was amazing. Still integrating it. So many connections. So much information still integrating and processing. Will share information throughout future podcasts.

But today really wanting to highlight: helping you prepare for summer so you can have your best summer and not have to overwork and not have revenue that gets weird and unpredictable, or feel like you have to close business doors because you won’t be able to keep up with things, or feel guilty because you’re going to miss those summer moments with your kids.

Or feel like you have to put business on pause and wait till fall when kids go back to school, or wait till you feel ready or someone gives you permission.

We’re going to start planning now.

Many wellness practitioners fall into two extremes during summer: completely pausing business (losing revenue and momentum) or overworking from fear of slowdown (burning out and missing family moments). Learning to prepare strategically for summer creates the third option—peak revenue months within ideal hours while taking breaks.

The Two Common Summer Patterns (Both Lead to Guilt)

Said in past podcasts (look back and reference them—usually “summer” is in the title, sorry don’t have the number): usually one of two things happens with practitioners over summertime.

Pattern 1: Complete Pause

They either put a pause in business completely and say: “Okay, I’m just going to kind of stop altogether.”

Usually that’s a newer business owner, maybe someone with a job or access to financial resources. They’re just going to pause and wait till fall, then ramp things up then.

Or the business owner that does need revenue still coming in—they pause so it’s just bare minimums showing up. Some of their clients actually can’t tell if they’re open or closed for summer.

Pattern 2: Overworking from Fear

Or the business owner really fearful of summer and revenue slowdown, so they’re overworking in summer.

Usually see these two extremes. And there’s a lot of guilt on both sides.

If you have pause on business, there’s a lot of guilt over things you’re not doing and how you’re not showing up. If you’re overworking, there’s guilt on missing moments with family.

Want you to find that sweet spot so you can relax, enjoy your summer, and hit your biggest revenue months.

Why Summer Is Actually Prime Real Estate for Wellness

Here’s truth about summer, especially in the wellness space, especially now: Your clients are starting to think about summer.

They just came back from spring breaks. Maybe they didn’t look as cute as they wanted on spring break. Jeans were a little bit tighter. They bought a bikini but didn’t actually wear it, or they were in the coverup the whole time because of shame about how their body was looking and feeling.

Or maybe they did some excursions and hikes and were winded—not as strong as they’d like to be.

Spring is going to give them some data and feedback. Not in a slimy or sleazy kind of way—you can help them utilize that data and observe that data to help inform changes they want to make for summer.

For your clients:

  • Some might have more mental space because they are traveling
  • Maybe have some trips where they can actually think about their health and wellness
  • They’re out of routine—great time if they go on vacation and come back to try implementing new behavior and new health routines
  • They also might be reflecting on their lives when they’re stuck in the airport
  • They might be scrolling more
  • They might be asking themselves: Why do I feel like this? Why am I still burnout? Why am I tired? Why am I having trouble sleeping? Why am I not connected to my partner?

Right now, spring break has started that awakening and insight realization. And summer is prime real estate for transformation conversations.

People buy identity shifts this summer.

The Truth: Create Natural Urgency (Not Gimmicky Urgency)

Here’s the truth: If you want to keep your revenue going for summer, you want to give them a reason to buy. You want to create natural urgency—not gimmicky urgency.

Like “I only have two spots left” when you actually have space for people. Talking about real, authentic urgency.

(Now using “two spots left” sometimes in email marketing campaigns and through Instagram stories—but it actually IS when only having two spots left. There’s a difference versus just saying “I only have two spots left.”)

Your clients are staring at their lives and deciding:

  • Who they want to be by fall
  • Who they want to be sometimes in the part of summer
  • What they want their summer to actually look and feel like

Your job is to give them a reason to do that transformation with you right now.

Because here’s the truth: If you book up for spring, then you can create a waitlist for summer.

Example: Right now (recording April 15th), booking up for one-to-one into mid-May. As soon as that books up, going to be booking up into summer.

Also preparing—you can put this on your calendars: first week of June, doing a free webinar (haven’t done free webinar in a long, long time). Make sure you come and join free on all about how to create $100K working from home, going online (you know me, love working from home).

Right after that, doors to the 100K Online Blueprint are opening. Preparing things right now for summer. Actually launching in summer, but the work starts now.

Starting to give audience (just as talking to you) time to prepare now and get in now so that both helps clients stay consistent, clients get results over summer—and it’ll do the same for your clients. Plus it’ll create revenue that’ll stay more consistent over summer.

Because if you have people on waitlist that are going to start in June, for example, then you’re sure that you’re going to have revenue coming in.

When You Create Real Urgency: You Stop the Revenue Rollercoaster

Here’s what happens when you create real urgency and give your people a genuine reason to buy now or during summer: You stop the revenue rollercoaster.

You stop attracting “maybes.” “I’ll think about it. Maybe I’ll do it in the future.”

The urgency is a filter. People who say yes when you give them a real reason—those are your people.

Plus, if they’re waiting for the future—if you’re saying “Do this now so that this happens” or “so that you prevent this”—then they won’t have a reason to wait. They will want to start with you now.

This is giving you your power back. This is giving you so you don’t feel like you’re at the whim of seasons, and that your revenue is outside of your control.

You actually have things that are in your power that you can do to help create the schedule you want and the revenue you want for summer.

Because there’s nothing worse than building something amazing (this amazing online program or business) and just waiting around, hoping someone notices, hoping that someone wants to make a health and wellness change over summer.

But when you create the reason for them to buy now or buy during summer, you’re not at the mercy of the algorithm or the season or your client’s indecision—puts you in the driver’s seat.

Understanding how to create natural urgency around seasonal timing transforms summer from revenue slump into peak earning period. Learning to give clients genuine reasons to buy now stops the revenue rollercoaster and creates predictable income.

Strategy 1: Create a Summer-Specific Entry Point

You don’t need a whole new offer. You just need to educate on why NOW is the best time to start.

That can be:

  • Now planning for summer, building your waitlist (starting now in April)
  • Or planning some campaigns on why summer is the best time to start

Might do a workshop. Used to do a workshop (not going to be this summer’s workshop because doing the Work From Home $100K with Your Online Program this year).

But for a few years in a row, did the Summer of Having [workshop] or the Summer of Both—teaching clients how to have their ideal revenue and their ideal schedule so they could hang out with family. Very summer-specific workshop. Did it right before the start of summer—a lot of times in May or early June.

Then because it naturally spoke to the urgency of solving the problem now and working with me now to create a better summer, people would book consults and then start working now. Got less of the “Oh, I’ll just wait for it” objections on consult calls.

What Could You Create for Your Clients?

You could create a spring workshop—maybe May or end of April or May (depending on when you listen to this) or June.

Examples:

Functional Medicine Practitioner working with LPs: “Learn how to optimize LPs using functional medicine and your unique lab reports to get the most out of them sooner rather than later—so you have more energy and feel great over your summer vacations.”

There’s a whole bunch of natural urgency baked into that.

Working with clients in menopause: “Learn how to sleep through the nights now during the hot, sticky summer nights—so your summer isn’t wrecked because you are just lacking sleep all summer long.”

Another one—natural urgency.

So you can:

  • Create a workshop around it, then that can lead to your program
  • Just speak to those messages on Instagram through content (Instagram stories or the feed)
  • Send emails about it
  • All of the above

Create a Special Bonus

You could create a special bonus around it too with that type of messaging, then say:

“Get an extra month working with me for free for my—if you book my 6-month program, I’ll carry you through summer. So you’re not trying to figure out your diet and meal plan alone while traveling and then wondering if you’re going to make the most of calls—you don’t even have to worry about that because it’s a bonus. Come join me now so you get that extra month.”

You could say something like that. You could promote it on the workshop or just promote it in emails.

There’s all kinds of things you can do if you start.

You can ask AI: “Here’s my offer. I want to create some summer urgency.” Start planning it with AI now that the seed is planted for you.

Strategy 2: Anchor Your Content and Marketing in That Summer Timeline

You’re not posting just generic content. You’re posting content that creates the urgency based upon the summer season.

Every piece of content you create right now should have a subtle or overt nod to the season and the clock and the benefits of working with you now—and all the heartache you’re going to help prevent because they work with you through summer instead of waiting till fall.

For example:

“By September, you could be feeling stronger, have more energy, sleeping through the night. You could have reduced your back pain flares so you feel comfortable sitting in a road trip in your car.”

It’s not manipulation—it’s math. And math can be very motivating.

So use this season as your co-writer. It’s already doing the heavy lifting of natural urgency. You just have to work with it.

To Capitalize on These Strategies:

Number 1: Create the entry point.

That could be:

  • A bonus you could do
  • A workshop or a special event
  • Just something to start the momentum, kick off the momentum

If you’re doing a bonus, make sure there’s a deadline.

“Enroll with me before summer starts [June X date], so you’re in and locked in.”

That again gets them the help they need before summer and helps to create more predictable revenue over summer.

And of course, if you have an online program where you can take yourself out of only the one-to-one trade—where maybe you have some deliverables or asynchronous support (like DMs or modules), and you can have maybe two calls a month instead of calls every week—that creates more flexibility in your schedule.

Number 2: All your marketing

All your content is around:

  • The summer theme
  • Your bonus
  • The urgency of why they would want to start now instead of waiting

Before You Do Those Two Things: Answer These Questions

What do you want your hours to be for summer?

Map out your summer vacations as much as possible. Or at least if you don’t know the exact weeks you’re traveling yet or how much you want to travel—hypothesize.

Say: “I want to take 3 weeks off.”

For me: Like to do it right when daughter’s school gets out because we’re all in the summer break feel. Then we also do a trip around husband’s birthday (always go camping). So dates are kind of set. Then there’s always some extra days in between that add up to the 3 weeks.

Have a sense of idea, but not all the extra days aren’t completely planned yet (dad might be coming into town, don’t know exactly when yet; in August like to do some San Diego staycation days).

Have a sense what I want it to look like. So can start to plan for that now.

When looking at that—if trying to work with rebrand timeline too, if wanting to do webinar in June so can have rebrand assets already to be launched, but don’t want to go—want to kick off the momentum before summer—that’s kind of the window. Can start planning for all of that now.

Don’t have to do all that leading into the crunch period. This also allows planning how many new clients can be taken on and how to spread them out by looking at schedule.

Then can pair that with what I want my revenue to look like over summer. Make sure all the numbers add up.

You’ve got to take the filter off with the revenue. Don’t say: “My clients will only pay this, or this can happen.”

Just write down your ideal numbers and then try to work backward in relation to your calendar.

And sometimes you just have to let go of the how and put your revenue number and put your dream schedule, declare it to the universe, and then just start taking daily steps toward both of those without the exact how—let the map unfold (which is really hard to do, but it does work out).

The Truth: Slow Seasons Are Slow for People Who Don’t Plan

That thought of “Nobody buys during summer”—it’s wrong. It’s just wrong.

Slow seasons are slow for people that don’t plan ahead or don’t create that natural urgency or capitalize on the natural urgency that’s happening.

Like said: Had some of biggest revenue months in June, July, and August. And for sure some clients have had that too.

When you create a real time-bound offer with genuine context:

  • It’s not sleazy
  • It’s not salesy
  • It’s not desperate
  • It’s strategic

Desperate posting is: “DM me if you’re interested” with zero reason to ask today, or cold DMing people with no connection or relationship built ahead of time.

Confidence is saying:

“This is a special offer. You get one month where I’m going to help you through summer so you can sleep and have your best summer yet with the most energy. The doors close August 15th. Also, you can feel this certain way by September.”

That is confidence right there and empowerment.

Because here’s another truth: Your audience—if they’re really wanting help, they’re going to buy from someone. Make sure it’s you.

And if you’re not giving them a reason to buy from you now, they’re going to give their money to a practitioner who is.

Learning to communicate time-bound value without sounding desperate or salesy is what separates practitioners who thrive in summer from those who struggle. Mastering strategic summer campaigns creates confidence and revenue momentum.

Start Now: Your Summer Planning Action Steps

Start considering:

  • What might be that kickoff to momentum for your summer
  • Start planning your summer content and selling the bonus and all the reasons why they should work with you now and during summer versus waiting till fall

Then do yourself a favor: Schedule out emails, schedule out social media posts—then they’ll all go out and you can be—that’s what was done.

Went to conference and had emails going out, had social media going out, and came back to consults booked in calendar.

Hope this helps you. Would love to hear—if you aren’t following on Instagram, you can do so right now. It’s Ignite Your Wellness Business (IG handle). Send a DM and let know what you thought of this episode. Would love to hear from you.

That name will be changing when coming through rebrand, so that is coming. Will have profile up—if you go to that, if you want to follow now and have rebranded, if you just go to that handle, will direct you to new handle.

And of course, if you want help planning this, get in schedule now and will help you through summer.

The 100K Blueprint or working one-to-one are the perfect places where we’ll help you hit your best revenue months over summer and still enjoy it and create those precious moments with your family and/or just downtime for yourself.

Took a day—stayed a day later after the conference to integrate. At the whole conference, did some pool time. Was so lucky to spend some pool time with coach (she was there) and someone just connected with at the conference. Then we went to this most amazing Ukraine restaurant for lunch (her and I)—oh my gosh, the food was so good. The people there—really good people. The waiter, everyone—this restaurant, it’s called All You Need (if you are in Miami, highly recommend).

Then here’s the truth: after friend left (her flight left later that day) and coach went onto her room, had it was like 4 PM or so. Took a luxurious bath in the hotel (coach is part of VIP, we got these bath items). Then shower, got into comfy cozy jammies, and read a book for hours with no interruptions.

Can tell you: feel so refreshed right now. And still woke up to consults coming in—because had everything scheduled and planned ahead of time.

And that’s what your summer can be like too.

Felt confident to spend that extra day there because with revenue, wasn’t worried about taking the time off. So this is all available to you too and would love to hear how it goes for you.

Hi, I'm Dr. Alison McLean, DPT

I believe wellness practitioners deserve to live the freedom they teach.

Not someday. Not after one more certification or one more full caseload. Now. We entered this work to help people heal — and somewhere along the way, we became the most burned out people in the room. Seeing clients back to back, skipping meals, missing family moments, quietly wondering if this is as good as it gets. What they didn't teach us in school is that the business model we inherited was never designed to give us freedom. It was designed to keep us busy. There's a version of your practice that doesn't require your sacrifice as the cost of admission. One where your income isn't capped by your calendar, your clients get your best, and you actually have a life outside the treatment room.

That's the world I'm building — and I'd love to help you build it too.
