Hey there wellness entrepreneur. Welcome back! In today’s blog, I am introducing the Workshop Series: A Case Study Special.

So over a few episodes, I will be interviewing my clients and their experiences with workshops. Now these workshops are sometimes live, sometimes collaborations, sometimes in-person, sometimes online, the purpose is to inspire you on topics, different creative ideas of how you can utilize workshops in your business in many different ways.

So the title workshop is really just a starting point because some of my clients do challenges, some of my clients do in person running form clinics, some of my clients do free master classes or in-person paying to our workshops collaborating with a specific studio.

So you can listen to all their ideas, all their success, and be inspired to put on your own workshops or events in a way that really lights you up and serves your audience so that you can start signing more clients, get fully booked, and hit your 100k year, whether it be in-person or online or a hybrid of both. So I hope you enjoy these very inspiring case studies.

Hi there wellness entrepreneur. Welcome back!

Today, I’m honored to have on special guest Marie, who is an aroma therapist as well as a women’s wellness practitioner. She really is a wealth of information and has so many skills to help women in a variety of different ways. So I’ll let her explain all of that herself.

Question to Marie: Marie, tell us a little bit about what you do and who you help and also tell everyone your last name since so I don’t know how to pronounce it.

Marie: Well, hi everyone and thank you for having me here. I’m really happy and excited. So my name is Marie Moulinou. I’m French, as you can hear from my accents, but I’m based in in Europe, in Sweden, and like you said, I’m an aroma therapist and I work with anyone, men, women, children.

But 90% of my clients are actually women between the age of 25 to 65 and I help them with a lot of issues they have like many women unfortunately, stress issue, female health like hormonal imbalance and endometriosis. So when I work in a holistic way, I don’t just look at different symptoms and focus on a body part or neck problem, I really focus on the whole person mentally, emotionally, physically, energetically.

Alison: Yeah, I love that! And so we met on Instagram and immediately I could tell that you had a wealth of information and we started a conversation and eventually, we started working together.

Question to Marie: You help people both online and in-person, correct? Can you tell a little bit about the differences of how you help people online versus how you help them in person?

Marie: Sure. Yeah! So I work mostly now in-person and as you know, and I’m launching now online services as well. So in-person, I do primarily body work, also for aroma therapy consultations, different type of massages, lymphatic drainage, face massage, coaching. I also work with something that’s quite new and unique especially in Sweden, I don’t know in other countries, but I work with olfactory therapy, which is therapy using the sense of smell and using high vibrations essential oils to release emotional blocks, energetic blocks, working with balancing the chakras and working with body pains as well, so it’s a really powerful and safe way to work with essential oils that gives really good results.

And also, in my practice, I work a lot with self-healing, so it’s the person, their body, in combination with my guidance and the oils that do a lot of the healing, and before we met, I only did individual treatments and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to work with you was to offer programs and that’s what I do now. And I’m really glad I did that.

So I have different wellness programs. I have three different ones and now I’m going to launch them online as well.

Alison: Yeah, I love that. So that was our first work together. We got those programs together and I’ll have you describe them in a little bit because I just love them because you quickly came up with all this. We just worked on the packaging of it really and brought it together for both in-person and online which I think is so important to highlight because you are a wonderful body worker and aroma therapist and there might be people in a similar position as you that be like, “Well, how do these even transfer online? How can I do this online?”

And part of the reason that we did do this is because you do have an international community online and you can work with all those people.

Question to Marie: So tell us a little bit about your programs and how they might differ a little bit in person versus online?

Marie:  Sure. Yeah! So I have three different programs. The first one is called Feminine Harmony, which is aimed at women who have issues with stress, with managing different life issues, different body pains related to stress, related to their own well-being and wellness as a woman and that could be not being able to be confident at work or in a relationship, having different body pains. So we work on many different aspects.

And then the second one is Radiant Mama. Here, we’re focusing on getting new moms or older moms back on track, getting the vitality back, the energy, so they can spend time with their kids and the partners and be happy in their lives and not being burned out and stress and tired. So that’s a big summary of this.

And the last one is Wise Women and on this program, we’re focusing on all the symptoms that come with menopause and perimenopause. So night sweats and being a bit angry, not feeling good about yourself, weight gain, water retention, sleeping issues, so all of these are very common and not very well looked after by the medical care especially in Sweden.

So with the help of aromatherapy consultations, massages, coaching, and other tips, we address all of these symptoms and you really helped me because before we met, I already had the framework for these programs but you really helped me put them together in packaging and helping me to put together all the different skills I have and the different my vision and my practices to have something that’s really well packaged and well put together.

Alison: Yeah! I’m really glad about that. Congratulations! And you sold your first few people into those packages. So we’ll talk about that process you used, free and paying workshops to do that. So first, we got the offers together and then we worked on doing your first few solo workshops. So you had done a couple of workshops in the past but they were with someone and these were completely on your own.

Question to Marie: So tell us, how the process of how you got the workshops scheduled into the calendar and got the space available in the yoga studio? So these were in-person workshops.

Marie: Yeah. That’s something I wanted to do for a long time and like you said, I only did them in as a guest in someone else’s workshop and I did try to launch a workshop on my own in November, but didn’t really work. I only had one person sign up.

But with working with you, putting the workshop together, it was really successful. A lot of people coming and really happy at the end and I realized I really loved doing that. So it was extra bonus for me, but the first workshop I did was a free workshop, the first one, because I maybe need to also say that what I’m doing is also new and unknown in Sweden, so obviously you need to make people want to try something new and get out that comfort zone.

Alison: Yeah, how did you do that?

Marie: So it was a lot of work on the message, and the fact that it was free, was obviously it’s attractive, and then I put it everywhere on social media, on Instagram, I created a Facebook event, and then I shared it with all my network and asked my network to share it. So it got me more and more visibility. So yeah, I think the delivery, the message, was very important and the Instagram stories sequences you had me with, was also something very important because I think initially, I was scared of being too repetitive and I think maybe it’s the concern of other entrepreneurs when you’re trying to launch something or not, “But I already talked about that a few days ago, people have seen it.” But yeah, like you said, they don’t necessarily see it and some people need to see several times before thinking, “Yeah, I really want to try that.”

Alison: Mm-hmm! A hundred percent. You just nailed it! So many people are afraid of being too spammy to the audience or too repetitive, but you these days, you really can’t be.

Marie: Yeah, yeah! So that that really worked, and then from the first workshop, I had ten spaces and I think eight people came in the end, two didn’t show up. But I had the ten spaces filled, booked.

And then we worked together on the follow-up as well, following up after the workshop, also send some information, things we discussed during the workshop and then people from these free workshop sign for the next one with new people as well. So that’s how we got started!

Alison: Yeah, I love it! And the next one was paying, correct?

Marie: The next one was paying, exactly. I had some really nice feedback from the first workshop. Some of them was by e-mail or Instagram. So I share that as well in the next.

Question to Marie: For the next one, it was in-person in a yoga studio. So how did you, sometimes that can be a tricky thing to actually like if you’re teaching a first workshop and don’t have a reputation to go on, how did you secure the spots in the studio to be able to teach them?

Marie:  It was just by chance. I was looking for a place to have my first workshop and then I saw the yoga studio was advertising, they were renting the space for workshops, so I got in touch with the owner and we had the meeting and we clicked and lovely lady, so she was willing to try something new with me. And so, that’s how we started working together.

Alison: Yeah! I love that! And you paid rent for these spaces?

Marie: Yes. I paid an hourly fee.

Alison: But it was worth it because you got clients in the end!

Marie: It did. Yeah. I did, yes. And she was nice enough to give me a little discount if I booked for like two different times as well.

Alison: Yeah! And so that was one thing you learned too because you booked a bunch of workshops, and was it the third or fourth workshop where it was a little harder to fill because they were all very close together?

Marie: Yeah! That’s right. Yeah. I think I got a bit carried away and I wanted to, because I’m also I’m working on chakra balancing, so we started with the root chakra and then with going up, sacred chakra, and then solar plexus chakra. So I really wanted to carry on the work with people and people in the workshop, but then when is the next one, but I got a bit burnt out because I had three workshops every other week. So that was quite a lot of work for me to plan and to prepare and to promote as well.

So the third one, it was still a great workshop, a good turn up, but I was a bit burnt out in the end. That was a good lesson and I scheduled the fourth one now a month after. So that’s good.

Alison: Yeah! Thank you for sharing that because I think it’s important to know that they can be so successful and we can get carried away, but we want to make sure we do have a sustainable schedule and sometimes the only way to know what that is, is to try it out exactly as you did, like give it a go and see like, is this too much? And if it was, and being like, “Okay in the future, I know I’m gonna spread them out more.”

But you did it and you created such momentum in your business. So huge congrats for that!

Question to Marie: So tell everyone how did they go then from the workshop to be becoming a client in your programs?

Marie: Yeah! So that’s something we work on together as well because it’s something I was a bit uncomfortable to promote myself after the workshop. And so we had a bit of a, I would say mindset. And also, because we talked about it, I have a background in sales. I used to work in corporate before business to business and I had no problem with that, but when it comes to myself and my business, I felt uncomfortable. So we had that talk after the first workshop. I didn’t really do that and then on the second one, I did, and the way you said it really rang a bell to me. It’s not about selling myself. It’s more about this is my services, this is what I offer, and this is how I can help you and I really resonated with a few women in the workshop.

One of them booked straight away a consultation with me and now she’s part of the on the in person programs that I have and it’s great! We’re working together!

Alison: Amazing. Yeah! And it’s remembering, it’s an invitation and if we don’t, I remember that conversation, if we don’t extend that invitation, but they might want to work with you, and they just need that like help to get there to take that next step, if we don’t make that invitation, then we’re not actually serving them because they’re not getting the help. You did a wonderful job! You did all the work with this!

Marie: Thank you. Yeah. I needed you help to get in track and to speed up the process.

Alison: That’s the whole point, is to give you the plan, the focus, and to help you speed up the process, so you don’t have to figure it out by yourself like in November, if you had just stayed with like thinking in November, “Oh workshops aren’t for me .They’re not gonna work,” then you wouldn’t have these amazing clients that you have but you actually took a leap of faith with me and did the work and now you know that workshops do work for you and you have a repeatable process.

Marie: Definitely! Yeah!

Alison: And so now you can repeat that online as well.

Marie: Yeah, exactly. That’s the next phase. So now, in June, I will be launching my online programs and that’s something I wanted to do before we started working together because I realized that’s what I need in my business. I can’t only be doing bodywork because it’s not sustainable for me personally but you really helped me like you said at the beginning of the podcast of transfer the skills, bodywork skills, and all the skills into online and when we started talking about the online programs, I told you I don’t know how I can do that, it was very messy in my head, but we really went through and you had some really good suggestions and I realized of course, I can do that.

Alison: Yes, you can because you’re so skilled!

Marie: Thank you. So the online programs will be similar to the in-person ones, but instead of doing the massages and the bodywork, I will teach my clients how to do self-messages. So using acupressure to push different points in the body to soothe yourself, neck massages, massage for women. It’s very important teaching them different meditation techniques, using essential oils, and then giving tips on how to use aroma therapy. All different aspects of the life. So a lot of these things can be done online without me, without touching them in-person.

Alison: Yeah! I love that! I can’t wait to see what comes for that for you. It’s just gonna open a whole new world and then you’ll have flexibility and freedom in your schedule. Some people will be in-person some days, and you’ll have on the ability to work online too.

Marie: Yeah, exactly. That’s the plan and because I also, like you said, I have an international audience. So I’m based in Sweden and I speak Swedish, but I have also a lot of people from England, from France, and because I speak French, I can also do a lot of online things with French people which is which is really exciting.

Alison: Yeah! I love that! Well congratulations to all your success!

Question to Marie: Can you tell everyone where can they find you on both Instagram and also your website?

Marie: Sure. So the company is called Green Moon Aroma Therapy and I’m on Instagram @green.moon.aromatherapy. And my website is greenmoonaromatherapy.com.

Alison: I love it! And so you’ve given a wealth of information for people from everywhere from like getting confident in making your offers then beginning to sell and build your audience, grow your audience, and as well as convert that audience into paying customers through workshops, the ability to work online and in person.

Question to Marie: Are there any parting words of wisdom that you’d like to share with the entrepreneurs that might be stuck in any of these phases of the journey?

Marie: So my business is really new. So I started in September, so I don’t have the a lot of experience in having my own business, but what I can tell now in the stage I am in is first, don’t wait until you get some help with coaching. I’m really glad we started working together at the beginning of my journey. I had already a lot of things in place, it wasn’t completely new and I had a business plan and I knew my customers, but I also knew that the sooner you get help, the sooner you can grow. So that’s something to keep in mind, I think.

And then one of the things I learned working with you is, I have a tendency to wait until everything is perfect before launching, before talking about it, but the risk of doing that is you don’t actually move forward and that’s working with you really helped me pushing me a little bit and realizing I don’t need to have everything 100 perfect and ready before launching and a lot of things come along together as you start working.

And then I would say have fun as well. That’s really important to remember why you’re doing what you’re doing for and having fun and helping people is a really good thing to keep in your heart and keep going when things are a bit slow.

Alison: Yeah, I love all that! And those are such common areas where people get stuck, like waiting to hire a coach, waiting till things are perfect, so thank you so much for sharing your story and sharing that wisdom and how it’s helped you because you’ve done all this since starting your business in September. We’re recording this in May, not even a full year, and look at how much you’ve done and you have your clients in your program and you have repeatable process now that you can implement and you get to travel this summer, too! You have some fun holidays planned as well.

Marie: I am. Yes. Yes.

Alison: Yeah! That’s great!

Marie: And I can also, we talked about scheduling in advance and planning to make sure you also enjoy some time off and that’s one of the perks of being your own boss as well is to be able to have that so yeah! So it that’s fantastic!

Alison: Exactly. You don’t have to overwork! This can be done on a sustainable schedule and you can have fun with your family, too.

Marie: Yeah. Yeah, exactly!

Alison: Well, thank you so much for sharing your time and your wisdom here with everyone!

Marie: Thank you for having me Alison and thank you for your help and speak to you soon.

Alison: Yeah, you’re very welcome!

One to One, 6 Month Business Coaching for the Wellness Entrepreneur

Hi, I'm Dr. Alison McLean, DPT

I believe wellness practitioners deserve to live the freedom they teach.

Not someday. Not after one more certification or one more full caseload. Now. We entered this work to help people heal — and somewhere along the way, we became the most burned out people in the room. Seeing clients back to back, skipping meals, missing family moments, quietly wondering if this is as good as it gets. What they didn't teach us in school is that the business model we inherited was never designed to give us freedom. It was designed to keep us busy. There's a version of your practice that doesn't require your sacrifice as the cost of admission. One where your income isn't capped by your calendar, your clients get your best, and you actually have a life outside the treatment room.

That's the world I'm building — and I'd love to help you build it too.
