You’re going to get the simplified content planning schedule again so you never have to ask yourself, what should I post? What should I say? And you’re going to get the confidence and authority blueprint. So if imposter syndrome shows up or fear or you feel frozen not knowing what to say or dreading posting content, you’ll know exactly how to shift your mindset so you show up confident and as the go-to expert, so you grow your audience and your visibility.

For $7, you get the two-hour interactive workshop. You can show up live again, get personal feedback. You can also get the replay, if you can’t make it live. Of course you can send in questions ahead of time and get them answered. Hi there, wellness entrepreneur! Welcome back!

Today, I’m honored to have on my client and special guest Kirsten Werner and she is going to share her story which is different than previous entrepreneurs’ stories because she comes into my coaching program from a slightly different place where she already has an established clinic with staff. Specifically, she has a massage clinic out of her home. It’s in a separate building, a separate structure, but it’s still on her property and how she runs a business managing staff.

Also, what makes this story unique is she was recovering and you’ll hear from her story, needing time to heal her body, her physical body and her emotional state. So you’ll hear about what systems she put in place to really manage her staff, get more profitable, how she managed healing with coming back to doing body work sessions, how she also brought in her online program where she offers business coaching for wellness practitioners. You’ll hear how she did this with a manual schedule, time for healing, time off for her self-care.

Her story is also unique because she does take insurance. She is located in Canada. So if you’re out of country, outside of the United States and you want to get a sense of how this program, how working with me might apply to other areas of the world.

Kirsten’s story will motivate you because she does invest more because of the Canadian to American dollar exchange and she makes sure that she really gets on that return and we’re able to work with slightly different systems in Canada for her massage studio versus massage clinics in the state that are more out of pocket and cash based.

So this blog is for you if you really want to scale a clinic, make it more profitable, buy yourself time back or get yourself time back so you can grow an online program, whether that be a wellness program for your existing audience or if you want to pivot into a different audience like Kirsten’s doing with business coaching, how she’s able to find the time and especially if you’re located out of the United States and want to hear a story of someone successfully succeeding in my programs. Enjoy!

Alison: Hello there, wellness entrepreneur! Welcome back! Today, I’m honored to have on my client Kirsten Werner and she is a massage clinic owner and a business coach. Welcome Kirsten.

Kirsten: Yay! Thanks!

Alison: Yeah! You’re very welcome.

Question to Kirsten: So tell us a little bit about where you’re located because you have a brick and mortar and what you’re doing online as well these days.

Kirsten:  Yeah! So I’m located in the north up in Canada. I’m on Vancouver Island, which is just off of the west coast and I’m about in the middle island in an area called the Comox Valley. I’m actually in a village called Cumberland and I’ve been living here since 2009 working as a massage therapist and I opened my own clinic in 2014 and then it’s been growing since then. I worked with one other massage therapist for about six, seven years and then I built a second treatment room and then started bringing in other massage therapists but it was actually through a very interesting time because I’d never really considered bringing other people in but after I’d built that second room that year, I was in a car accident that left me unable to work for two years.

So during that time, while I was recovering, I needed to look at ways at making more income so I started looking at bringing in more massage therapists into my studio. So it was a super interesting way to scale a business because I was also having to recover but it really made it super clear to me how important it is to be in the role of a leadership as a clinic owner and also have systems and strategies in place so you’re really not frying yourself and burning yourself out. You know everything’s going to run smoothly even if you’re having to lay in your bed and recover from whiplash which was what was happening with me.

And now, as I come out of that, I went back to work last year in 2024 and I learned a lot from running my business that way from not being in the clinic and just running as a clinic owner and I also learned a lot from being a client of going to other practitioners to receive treatment and just sort of watching what is that patient flow, if you book an appointment, how does it feel, how easy is it to navigate their systems.

And so I started organically having people asking me to help them with their business from a clinic and a wellness business perspective and I was like, “Yeah sure I’ll help you out.” And I’ve always done that. I’m always the person that helps out doing the dishes at your house and doesn’t really think about that it could pivot into a different part of my career and encouragement and also connecting with Alison and some other coaches and some retreats.

People really encouraged me to include into my work and career, adding coaching. And so I’ve been doing that and it’s been really really rewarding to be working with other health and wellness practitioners.

Alison: I love that! It’s such a journey that you’ve been on!

Just so I don’t forget, tell everyone where can they find you on Instagram. If your story kind of captivated them and they’re like, “Oh I want to learn more all about this.” Give them your IG handles because you have two and your website.

Kirsten: So on Instagram you can find me @wellnessbusinesscoaching and if you wanted to look at the clinic that I own and that’s @cumberlandvillagewellness. If you’re looking for the website, go to cumberlandwellness.ca and you’ll just see right in the footer at the top there, Coaching with Kirsten and you can click on there and then anyone can book in for a free 20 minute call to connect.

Alison: Wonderful! Love it.

Question to Kirsten: So tell everyone, because when we first started working together, you wanted to build the business coaching and we needed to get you some more time to actually do that so we had to implement some systems and do some work in your clinic. So tell us a little bit how many staff members you had at that time and what was really going on for you.

Kirsten: When I’ve done the scaling and because I was still off work, I wasn’t doing hands-on work in 2023 and I’d brought in three other massage therapists at that time. I was managing the e-mails and work and the team was checking the voicemails and such like that and I started to feel like I was a front desk person which isn’t the worst but it really wasn’t freeing up my time and it was more of a team to manage and so I had reached out to my virtual assistant who I was working with just for me. They were just doing work for me with helping with insurance and e-mails and I realized I needed to shift the support I was getting from them to encompass the entire team and then through a couple days of sort of noticing some like missed voicemails so it was missed appointments.

I realized we also needed some support with phone calls so I researched that, I found a call answering service that supports and my VA switched over to helping everybody with the direct billing and answering the emails.

Now what that did for me was huge. I didn’t actually realize how much communication we were getting through our clinic because I was just kind of on autopilot and responding but that freed up my time to put it into other areas which I was wanting to pivot into which was the Wellness Business Coaching so when I had the time to do that for myself it felt so much more at ease.

But the other key factor was that I really didn’t want to go back to work the way I had been working in 2021 which was kind of like in a scarcity mode because we’d just come out of the pandemic and you were like just keep working, say yes to every client, like go go go go! I wanted to make sure I was having time also for myself because part of the recovery process for my accident really showed how important obviously self-care is and we forget about ourselves. So I was like, “I need to make my schedule include things that I really love doing so that I have that free time for myself.”

People Also Read: How to Create Your Ideal Schedule

And so I started shifting how I was scheduling my week and so for example like even in this last month I’ve made some Tuesdays and Thursdays have free time and that includes like cross-country skiing, bold water swimming, or a forest walk or maybe it doesn’t have anything on the schedule and it allows me to be like, “Yeah I could go meet that friend for coffee,” and I think a lot of us don’t end up having that. We always have that feeling of like, “Oh no! There’s 20 e-mails I gotta get back to,” but all of a sudden because I’d had those systems put in place, it really helped.

And then the other part of it is that the revenue really shifted with how I was doing things. So I think a lot of the times too, people get afraid of hiring more help and being like, I can’t do it because I don’t have enough money, but when you hire more help, it can actually help you make more money, and that has proven to be true and so me investing in coaching with you helps me investing in having support with my business.

And then if I look at my numbers over the year and this was my first year, 2024 was my return to work year, so it was really fascinating to see this shift of the income in my clinic treatment revenue, coaching revenue, and also even my product sales went up as well. So all in all! It’s all been pretty amazing and rewarding to see.

Alison: I love that so much!

Question to Kirsten:  We can dive into here, I think we’ll start with your clinic because I want to highlight how creative and unique your clinic is and how you’re working with your community. I know a lot brick-and-mortar practitioners that I work with tend to be cash-based and are located here in the states but you actually have an insurance-based model because in Canada it supports massage therapy and you can bill for it and you have a wonderful system set up in in Jane and with the Jane app and with your VAs to help with the billing. Tell us a little bit about it. Your clinic is located on your property.

Kirsten: It is a really unique spot in the sense that when people drive in there, they are and I am surrounded by trees and there’s a little grove of trees right in the center so people feel at ease as soon as they come in. My massage clinic is in a separate studio so it was originally built as a mother-in-law suite so it has its own entrance and we’ve worked on the pathway and everything to direct people right to that space. I did it is super unique.

As far as the insurance goes, Jane software, I’ve been working with them since 2016 and they have different tiers of what you can get for working with their system, for billing, charting, and insurance so one of the things, I’m on the thrive plan, which includes insurance billing and it just streamlines it so smoothly because you can collect the insurance info from the client right there.

We have a direct billing authorization form that gets sent out to them so they’re signing it, they can upload a picture of their insurance card, and then what happens is that when the client arrives, we can simply click arrive then my VA has access. They’re on there as admin onto the Jane software. They see that they’ve arrived then they check to see if their insurance billing is all up to date, they submit it into the portal, then it’ll say like, “Okay that’s great 80% has been covered.” They put in the 80% then the 20% that’s remaining just gets billed on to the credit card that’s on file but what I’ve said a lot of steps there but remember, all I actually have to do is click arrived.

So I’m just clicking arrived and if there’s an issue with the insurance, say something comes up and they’re like, “Oh actually that person had reached their limit,” then we already have the credit card on file or my virtual assistant will contact the insurance company themselves so again that’s me spending the time on the phone trying to hunt down that money, they’re doing that for me to make sure that that all gets sorted out in the accounts receivable.

And so it’s incredible. Honestly, the first time I did, I hired them originally, I said just for me and the first week that I had them I was like dancing at the end of the week I was like, whoa, just have so much more time!

Alison: I love that! I have a client here in the States and she takes mostly cash-based but she does take on insurance and she just switched over to that format in Jane app too and it is so helpful. To know it exists, and there aren’t fees like as far as if you’re doing it, if it does work for you to do the insurance, then that just goes through there and it saves you on credit card fees. So amazing!

Question to Kirsten: And then another point which is very unique for where you’re located and the staff that you have is depending on, so for example, you’re an examiner for some massage therapy board licensing things and you do various things out in the community so you bring in staff that are actually sometimes traveling massage therapists so you can travel and you really last year worked on boarding and off-boarding and working with your VA’s to really help with that so it’s a streamlined system too. So tell us a little bit about that.

Kirsten: So where we live has mountains, oceans, rivers, mountain biking, so it’s become quite a destination for people to want to come for a holiday. So working holidays with massage therapists are quite popular in Canada and so as our area got more known, the more people were interested in coming here and doing sort of that working holiday so what we call them up here is locum.

So they’re filling in when somebody is off and so I started putting it out there and having a lot of interest and there were a couple people that were like massage therapists doing like they’ve got their super camperized van, the campsite is a 10-minute drive from here and so they could set up camp and be like, “I’m going to work at Cumberland Village Wellness for three weeks,” and when I would bring them on because of course they’re just working in that three-week period, I also want it to be really smooth and at ease and for them so I created a checklist that we would go through when they’re coming on board and I also worked with a different VA for helping me with my automation.

So the process of what happens when somebody contacts me. So if somebody contacts me and I get that e-mail and what you have to know too is like sometimes, I put ads out saying I’m looking for somebody and a lot of the times, I don’t and I just get people contacting me saying, “I would like to work there,” so that’s also quite unique because I’m not saying I need this. It’s just people being like, “Oh I like how your clinic looks! I want to work there!” So then they contact me and then the process is that I have my e-mail template that’s like, “Hey! Thanks so much! I’m so glad you’re interested in working here! Here’s a bit more about the clinic and how we run. Are you still interested? If you are then schedule a time and we’ll do a video call so we can talk about it.”

People Also Read: How to Grow Your Email List

But I just click those little three dots and the template goes up and then I can customize it for the individual then they schedule the time then we do the video call if that’s approved then the next process goes in where I’m sending them the contract and the deposit and that and then that’s where the other VA who helps her with the e-mail, they send all of that stuff then they onboard them onto Jane as a staff person so we get their bio, their profile picture is all up there and all ready to go, we look at what shifts we want to add them for and we set them there.

I do a different compensation rate for somebody when they’re working just in that short so it’s a higher percentage and then that’s it!

And then they come in and the thing that is again is that I have somebody who isn’t new to the community but because our clinic is so established it can be fully booked and people really trust my process of who I’m going to bring in and I brought in some really unique massage therapists who are doing stuff that are not offered in our community and so it’s always interesting to be like, “Okay let’s look at how we’re going to advertise this,” and people could feel interested and safe to come get these treatments because it’s a little different than your typical Swedish massage.

Question to Kirsten:  It’s pretty cool. It is amazing and that was going to highlight my next question because you nailed it is like you’re on top of it with your marketing to make sure that these therapist schedules are full and that the clinic is profitable with that turnover. So how do you keep the marketing going and keep the schedule filled?

Kirsten: I learned a lot like over the years and I think a lot of the times people sort of think, “Oh you’re born to market,” but I started out with crappy pictures knowing what I was doing in the beginning but over time I learned by taking my own courses but also really like honing into who am I targeting, what am I trying to achieve here and one of the things that I shifted was I could tell our community was growing probably about five, six years ago, we didn’t have as many massage therapists as we do right now but I could tell people were moving here so I was like, okay the market’s going to change because at one point there was just two of us here, that was it. So we were the choice. I was like, the markets can change and if I want to bring more people on here, how does that look?

So by having active marketing and scheduling my posts, it actually helped to bring in practitioners. So just like I said, when I have these people, these traveling massage therapists are like, “Hey I really like your clinic,” that’s often messaged to me Instagram and they’ve been looking and seeing that I’m doing an active marketing and it’s consistent and the branding is there and the messaging is super clear and then the other part of it is just kind of getting to know my community and how they use marketing.

So I have a really robust e-mail list. I have 1,500 clients on there and that works well for my true dedicated clients to be like, “Hey, heads up, in July over the next three weeks we have this person coming in and here are the appointments that are available. I really encourage you to try an appointment with this person.” And that gets that booked.

The second part is our community is very Facebook oriented. We have a few different Facebook groups that are just for the community but those work really really well for in two ways. Say there’s somebody who’s just moved to town and they put up a message that say, “Hey I’m looking for a massage therapist.” A lot of the times other people are tagging our clinic in there and then I can respond and reply and say, “Thank you so much for the tag! Yes, we’re open seven days a week and we are taking new clients,” and then I can also do in the ones that I’m allowed to do this on Facebook groups, I am allowed to say like, “Hey, heads up! Saturday and Sunday, we have appointments available. If anybody is looking for a massage after they go skiing.” Then that gets sat in there.

And then I also created a Facebook group that’s just for last minute appointments. So yeah, but group works different than obviously the page and so people are in there and they just get notified so if there’s something super last minute like it’s Thursday and there’s a three o’clock, I can put it in there and usually people will see it.

Alison: I love all this!

Question to Kirsten:  Probably the reader is thinking, okay, well, so now that last year you returned back to body work and there was some trial and error in like monitoring your symptoms in your house, not doing too much too quickly, that’s your profitability being the CEO and leader of managing the staff and your massage therapy staff and the VA and starting to build this business coaching practice. So how did you really manage it all and watch your schedule because you did have time to go for the cold water swims and skiing and I remember you told me, I showed up on I think it was a Tuesday and there was like, it wasn’t a weekend so there wasn’t a lot of people there.

Kisten: That was just a decision. I just like recently made but it’s interesting to do it because having the history of sort of creating it like going into the schedule and being like, I just have to work, or for years, I had my schedule set a certain way and I realized it was because my kids used to have swimming lessons on Tuesdays , Thursdays and now they’re adults and I had never changed and so you get stuck in that and part of it was me having to communicate with my clients and let them know that I’m doing things differently.

Also Read: Should You Teach More In-Person Classes? How to Decide What’s Best for Your Business

So I was like, “Hey I am not booking my full year.” In 2022, I had my year fully booked from January to December and I got in an accident in December just before the year started so my whole year had to get cancelled and that had never happened before and I also did not like the feeling. I love my clients but I felt trapped by having an entire year booked even though I knew I could cancel and reschedule stuff. It was just sort of an added feeling.

So I promised with myself to just do my schedule two months in advance and on Jane booking system, you can set your schedule your online booking to only to do two months in advance but the thing is that sometimes people forget is, say they do it and it’s a rolling two months then they forget when they’re like, “Oh shoot, I just realized March opened up so I don’t even put my schedule in there two months in advance.” It’s not bookable online.

I decide when I’m going to open it up because I want to monitor the seasons so again I want to do more cross-country skiing in January and February but in March then the mountain’s going to close so what am I doing and what do I want my spring to look like? What do I want my summer to look like and so they’re different seasons and different needs and I am prioritizing my schedule. And again, like I said, I love my clients but if I was to just like listen to what my clients want, well then what I’d be working at like 10 o’clock at night or something.

Alison: You wouldn’t have healed fully because you’re almost there. And you’re back to doing bodywork, you work the number of hours that you want, you have a sustainable schedule now, you can enjoy your life with all this.

Kirsten: Yeah! So that that was really really huge for me to do it that way and I am still sort of two steps forward one step back to be like, “Okay, how does this feel if I do three hands-on treatments in the morning versus three hands-on treatments in the evening? What does that feel? Do I have the energy if I do two massages in the morning to also work with clients in the afternoon?” So you have to try it out and be like, “How does that feel? What does that look like?” or maybe I want days where I’m just working with coaching clients and I’m still dancing with that, I’m still trying, I’m still figuring it out, but I want to have the wiggle room to be able to try it out. If I lock myself in then all of a sudden I don’t have that wiggle room.

Alison: Yeah! And by doing this process of prioritizing yourself and checking in with how you’re feeling, you’re going to show up better and give better quality sessions.

Kirsten: Yeah! For sure! I really noticed the work that I’m doing in both the coaching and the massage, I’m much more present and grounded and really like, this is the role that I’m in right now and also I enjoy it, I have like completely enjoy versus again when you do that thing where you just are like, “Oh I’m doing four treatments, maybe I’ll add a fifth.” And that fifth you’re just kind of watching the clock being like, “Okay, when am I going to be done?” So that presence is much more intentional in my treatment and more grounding and then same if I’m working with a one-to-one coaching client it’s like this is their time I’m with them and I’m much more focused.

Alison: You’re so amazing!

Question to Kirsten: And I also want to touch on a topic that’s sometimes sticky for the business owner with staff and also without staff because it’s raising rates, raising rates of the price, of your service, especially when they’re paying more out of pocket beyond the insurance, which you did beautifully, and raising rates of the staff, what they’re paying in rent, for so you did both of those and it went well so give some tips on how you communicated both to your audience, your clients, and your staff.

Kirsten: So typically my rates have always raised January 1st but they might raise but like two dollars five dollars this year. We did a ten dollar jump and when I looked at the quality of care that we had with our massage therapists and the experience that we had and the investment that everyone had put into additional continuing education, I was like, we are high quality experienced massage therapists so I looked at the market of what we what was offering in our community and I saw where it was at and it’s a pretty like mixed bag it can be any there’s like a range of rates that are happening in our community anywhere from like a 20 to 30 dollar difference.

I have found with my team that I want to hear their feedback and be like this is what’s happening but again when you get into that role of being the clinic owner, the CEO, the leader, they’re also really looking for like what do you think?

And so when I present it to them and I say this is what we’re doing, we’re doing a ten-dollar jump, they’re all like, “Okay great!” We’re in it and the years before that, I would be like, “Hey, I don’t know what do you guys. Do you think we should, shouldn’t we? and they’re sort of that didn’t see and they’re like, “I don’t know if we should.” But coming clear, powerful, confident leader, and then on our Jane booking site, so if there’s a 60-minute appointment it just says in the first little line it just says rates changing January 1st and then it says what the rates changing to right there and then I got my VA to change all my rates January 1st so I didn’t have to do that, they edited, took that little line out, we put up a bulletin board in our clinic, we also used the banner on Jane and then we also added information on the website and sent out an e-mail so that crossed a lot of and we heard nothing from anybody. They were totally fine.

One thing that was pretty amazing is that one of the insurance, one of our top insurance also changed their rate to happen so we thought there was going to be a bigger leap of what they were going to have we thought, “Okay now the clients are going to have to pay 14 but they only have to pay 10.” When does that happen?

So the insurance companies also kind of are seeing, okay people are changing their rates and there’s been absolutely no change in at all.

I also hired working with a bookkeeper. I’ve always worked with a bookkeeper but I was watching this bookkeeper who specializes working with health and wellness and she’s a total gem. I started working with her in July and I really wanted somebody who could speak to me in a way that I understand, like as practitioners, we can be like, this is the rotator cuff and these are all the detailed muscles and the client kind of glazes over that’s bookkeeping, I’m like, oh balance sheet, get down to me in a way that I can understand and that’s what she did.

So we had to calculate what that cost of adding those services were and then work that into what the rent that I was charging for my massage therapist again it’s not like my massage therapist if I’m going to tell them, “Hey your rent’s increasing,” it’s not like there’s smiles across the face but when I explain it to them, and I explain here’s what I’ve done, here’s we’ve actually looked at the numbers, I’ve taken the time to do this, they trust me and when you break it down into sort of that humanizing way and they’re like, “Oh yeah you wouldn’t just be doing this,” like we do really honor what you offer and one of my massage therapists even said recently, there’s another place that they could work that would be lower rent but they would have to be covering all the bookings themselves, filling their schedule, and they know if they weren’t here their schedule is full and so it was huge.

Alison: Yeah! I love that! So many wins! So many wins to the start of this year! And I think there’s a lot of brick and mortar practitioners that are also considering bringing in an online program of sorts.

Must Read: Tips to grow Your Wellness Business with a Repeatable System

Question to Kirsten:  So how are you managing wear all the hats and in the online program and market the online program?

Kirsten: I think you do have to set aside those times and be like, okay this is what I’m doing, and you’ve been a good reminder of that so if I have a time that’s scheduled for consultations with coaching and there’s nobody booked, then I can still use that time for working on my wellness business coaching so making sure that I’m sort of looking ahead and being like, “Okay, what does that look like, how could I do that if I’m adding an online course over the next three Fridays, how much time do I need to prepare for that, and what would the rest of my day look like?”

Like on Monday, I taught an online course and then that was what I did in the morning, I went to the gym, I did my postural exercises and then I made sure I had a good lunch and then I was able to teach my class from one to two thirty and then that was it. I didn’t book more people in the evening. I was like, that was enough for me for the day because it is output when you’re teaching. And then same thing like when that course is coming up, you’re like, “Okay I got to just review and make sure I have the space for questions and make sure all the things, that the templates that I might be sharing are prepared and then it just comes out way more with ease.”

Alison: Yeah love that! That’s a big reminder. Well so much gold here and so much coming up possibility wise for you as well as we move into 2025. So congratulations on everything!

Question to Kirsten: Any words of wisdom for maybe the brick and mortar practitioner that kind of feels like they’re drowning with their staff, they like can’t get ahead or they want to bring in an online offer but they feel like they can’t get ahead enough to create more time to be successful in that? Any advice for them?

Kirsten: Well coaching from me has been huge like working with other coaches like yourself has been really really big because it brings in support and accountability. It also allows you to just set aside that time so if you’re like, “Okay I know I’m meeting with Alison on Tuesdays at three,” then that’s already in the schedule and you know you’re going to have that time to focus and bounce ideas off of each other and a lot of the times you get into feeling really alone in in this world even though we work with so many clients and people but I find like coaching is when, you’re not that.

We have a staff room, but you walk into a staff room and your favorite person is there it’s kind of that you get to have that little moment where you’re like, “Oh I know this person understands me and I’m going to go through these things with them,” and it’s going to be super supportive with on anyway if I’m working on personal or business and so that’s been helpful.

And then when once you start working on, I did a lot of work on my own mindset because I felt really down probably about a year after my accident I still had some concussion symptoms going on and I was like this is not getting better like what if I don’t get better and I shifted a lot of the things I was doing that are not they weren’t big complicated shifts it was honestly like little things I have like wake up in the morning and write your three favorite things and looking at things that you were grateful for that aren’t big and grandiose so like currently, oh I’m grateful that I made six figures. I am grateful that I have these new slippers that feel super.

I love it and that just started building off of that gave me like the confidence in my mind that I could change and doing like walks every day, looking at the colors of the leaves, all of those things shifted in my mind to give me the space and those honestly took like five minutes in the morning, you can do a 15 minute walk, you know those little things started being like, okay wait this is my life to live so how do I want to live it and it is okay to change your schedule and shift. It it’s okay to talk to your team and be like, “Hey we’re going to be doing things a little differently,” or, “Let’s have a team meeting and check in,” and just having that confidence that you don’t have to feel trapped.

Alison: That’s a huge reminder and you just took it step by step day by day. Love all this!

Question to Kirsten: Well any parting words of wisdom for the listeners here today?

Kirsten: Yeah I think it’s still along the lines like it is great to get help. I think it’s awesome to have help. There’s a lot of things that we do that takes a lot of our energy so really looking at those areas that feel depleting and being like wait is there a way that I could automate that, is there a way that I could make a strategy and system in place so that I’m not doing that, can I outsource somebody else to do that because I really don’t like doing insurance billing or bookkeeping isn’t my strength and then focusing on your strengths and what makes you feel full and rejuvenated and bring its energy and excitement and creativity.

It’s not to say that you’re still going to have to, still going to have to do some task where you’re like that’s not the best but when you have the energy to do that you can just do it.

Alison: Because we’re not going to like every single task in the business. I think you just gave a great overview there. Thank you so much for your time. Again, let them know where they can find you on Instagram and your website.

Kirsten: So on Instagram, you can find me @wellnessbusiness and you can find my clinic is Cumberland Village Wellness. The website to go to is cumberlandwellness.ca and just click on Coaching with Kirsten and you’ll see info about how I work. You can read a bit more about my story and you can click right on there for a 20 minute free connection call.

Alison: I love it! So so many great reminders! Like even if life throws you major curveball like it did with your accident like you can still come back even if you do manual therapy, manual work, body work, you just have to take your time, you can pivot with your staff, you can make changes with your staff, you can learn how to lead your staff more efficiently bringing systems and streamlining processes and of course like prioritizing yourself and your own care and with all that when you do prioritize yourself get more streamlined in your business increase your revenue manage your staff more efficiently then you have the extra time to you know follow a nudge like bringing in an online program.

Well thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m sure you inspired a lot of people today and thank you for showing up.

Kirsten: And thank you so much and thanks for having me as a guest. I appreciate it so much.

Hi, I'm Dr. Alison McLean, DPT

I believe wellness practitioners deserve to live the freedom they teach.

Not someday. Not after one more certification or one more full caseload. Now. We entered this work to help people heal — and somewhere along the way, we became the most burned out people in the room. Seeing clients back to back, skipping meals, missing family moments, quietly wondering if this is as good as it gets. What they didn't teach us in school is that the business model we inherited was never designed to give us freedom. It was designed to keep us busy. There's a version of your practice that doesn't require your sacrifice as the cost of admission. One where your income isn't capped by your calendar, your clients get your best, and you actually have a life outside the treatment room.

That's the world I'm building — and I'd love to help you build it too.
