How to Eliminate Energy Leaks in Your One-to-One Coaching Practice

Table of Contents

Hi there, wellness entrepreneur! Welcome back.

Today, we’re going to be talking about the simplest way, the most streamlined way to create six figures online as a wellness entrepreneur.

And here’s the answer: through one-to-one work, combining all your certifications. The structure can be simple where you’re just meeting with clients via Zoom. You get to dictate how many sessions in a month, how long the package is, what you want to price it. I help my clients figure out all of these details so they feel completely confident showing up to any consultation calls and marketing their work because they fully believe upon it.

The Three-Step Process And What Holds Wellness Entrepreneurs Back From This Business Model

And what holds a lot of wellness entrepreneurs back from this simple business model of the three-step process, I shared this in an e-mail recently, is one, using workshops to both grow your audience and lead generation, grow your email list, as well as nurture those people on your email list, on your Instagram account. Number two, create that one-to-one high ticket offer. And number three, have higher converting consultations so that you have a next step to convert the people from your workshop to that offer.

Often what holds entrepreneurs back is this thought that, “I’m going to get burnt out with one-to-ones, I don’t have enough time for one-to-ones, I did one-to-ones in my job and I was extremely exhausted and tired all the time, I currently have one-to-ones in person right now and I feel exhausted all the time, how can I do one-to-ones online?” So the common themes are not feeling that you’ll have enough time in your schedule, so no time freedom, feeling like you’re going to be exhausted and tired.

And the third reason I often see is because you feel that people don’t want to pay a high price for wellness services so you think a membership or an online course will be easier on both your schedule because now you can serve a group of people all at one time or it’ll be a lower ticket price. And that’s where the thought errors are, in the beginning phases.

Often when I work with clients, I’m filtering them in my brain and determining, “Are they more of a beginner business? What’s their audience size? How many clients have they worked with?” Or they are more mature business. I’ve worked with some businesses where they’ve come in and they can go right to an online group program, for example, because they have the audience size, they have the demand for it, they have the skills in both copywriting, they know how to make registration pages, they know how to write emails, they send emails consistently, they nurture their audience online consistently, they’re continuously growing that audience, they have the skillset to not only just fill one online group program, but multiple rounds of that group program.

What’s so heartbreaking for me to see is a very capable wellness entrepreneur with multiple certifications or just diving deep into one certification or one modality and knowing that they can help people but they’re trying to launch a low ticket, mid to low ticket offer anywhere from $99 to $497 and they’re trying to implement all these higher advanced skills such as funnels and registration pages for both a lead conversion event and their sales page for the actual program.

They’re trying to market it to their audience but their audience is small, their email list maybe 50 people to 150 people, maybe 200 people, their Instagram is around 200 people and they’re trying to fill this course and they’re only making a few hundred dollars here or there when I can see that they have the potential to be making at least $2,000 a month if they had that high ticket offer and that streamlined simple funnel.

My Own Struggle

And I’ve been in your shoes. I understand how enticing it is to think that a $197 program will sell better and in my mind, I’m like, “Okay, I can do this. I have the audience size because people are reaching out and requesting to work with me,” but I underestimate the amount of work that goes into getting enough people in that program to make significant revenue. And the reason why I’m choosing this program is because I feel tired from my one-to-ones.

So back several years ago, the reason why I got into the online world was because I needed to create more time because making money, relying fully on my body, didn’t seem sustainable. It seemed risky because of my own health diagnosis and I wanted to bring in some online programs as well.

The simpler path for me at that time would have been to just bring in one-to-one online work. This is prior to the pandemic so I wasn’t forced to just transition some of my clients and get new clients that just wanted to work with me one-to-one. Instead, I created all this complexity in my business by trying to add in on-demand programs and group programs and it really caused my revenue to stall and here’s the counterintuitive part. During that time when I was managing my in-person one-to-ones and trying to do these more advanced business skills of launching groups and funnels and emails and multiple registration pages and timing and all that extra work that’s behind the scenes, I was actually more exhausted than if I had just stayed with one-to-one.

But because I had gotten into the world and started the work, I couldn’t immediately let it go. I had to see it through and it wasn’t until I went into my own mastermind, I think six or nine months later, when they told me, just do one-to-one online, that I finally just pivoted, let go of all my group programs and offered one-to-one online. And then right around that time, the pandemic hit. So it was more of a natural progression for me of offering just the same work that I do in person, now one-to-one online. Of course, it’s different because there’s some modalities that don’t transfer online and I figured that out and I teach my clients how to do that as well. But I was more open to just having those clients one-to-one online.

And when I finally did that and started working with people one-to-one online, I realized, oh, how simple this was. And I worked on my energy leaks. So I’ll go over some of my energy leaks so you can be aware of them for yourself as well.

My Five Main Energy Leaks

Okay, here are my five main energy leaks. I’ll give you the overview and then we’ll dive into each one specifically.

Number one, I didn’t manage the client work. The client load, the client work, I’ll get into that, what that actually means, but I was doing a lot of work outside of sessions that I didn’t need to do.

Number two, I put too much time in between sessions which really lengthened my day. And I was going over sessions because of that, which made a 60-minute session sometimes turn into 75 minutes or 90 minutes. And when that happens a lot, those are some long days.

Number three, I was teaching too many weekly in-person yoga classes.

Number four, I was working weekends, both just admin work that I got behind in in my own business because I wasn’t doing a good job managing my one-to-ones as well as I was teaching on weekends, both teacher trainings and workshops.

And number five, I had a lot of self-doubt in both whatever I was doing and my entrepreneur skills and my practitioner skills. I was just always doubting everything. So my mindset was not in a great place.

What Happens When You Clean Up These Energy Leaks

And I’ll tell you, when you clean up these five areas and just focus on transferring your skills from in-person to online through one-to-one, if you’re a practitioner that’s been doing in-person one-to-one for a while, maybe you want to finally get out of your mill job and you just want to start and go right online.

If you’ve been doing that work for a while, then it’s going to be simple. Now, all you have to do is get the confidence in your practitioner skills online and start to grow some of the business skills such as getting more leads, getting more visible, learning how to market online through Instagram and writing emails, for example. Become so much more simple than trying to learn how to get confidence in transferring your skills from in-person to online and teach one-to-many.

If you’re not used to teaching in a group, that’s two different skill sets that now you have to get confident in. Plus, layering in, learning how to market online through Instagram, writing emails, plus doing funnels and all that other stuff, that’s a lot all at one time. Whereas if you can just focus on the one thing of transferring your skills online, do what you’re good at because some of your skills already that you’ve been doing in-person one-to-one will just naturally transfer online easily. You’ll get confident quicker than you think. Then you can move on to the next skill.

So I have some clients, for example, they’ll come to me and we do one-to-one online. And then after just a few short months, they either get booked up with one-to-one online so then they can start to transition into more of a membership model or an evergreen group model or we do live launching group model. It all depends on the practitioner’s needs, what’s happening with their audience, what’s happening in their personal life. We work on that together.

I do have some practitioners who are very skilled in what they do. They do know how to teach one-to-many in-person. And so the time that they do their one-to-ones online is very quick and they can move to the group model quick. And then I have some other practitioners who move online and they’re newer to the online work. They’re newer to their certification and their skillset. Maybe they came from another career entirely like a lawyer or maybe they’re just newer to business, the wellness field completely and they want to stay with one-to-one longer. It doesn’t matter.

These five areas of reducing the energy leaks will give you freedom and give you more power and control. So that way, you can choose when you’ve developed enough confidence in your one-to-one online. So then you can add in the next skillset necessary to maybe launch a group program or a membership or an on-demand program.

But if you’re feeling exhausted in your one-to-one in-person and you try to just avoid or get out of that by launching a group or an on-demand program before you’re ready to do that or have the skillset to do that, the problems that’s causing your energy leaks, they won’t be solved. These five areas, you’ve never solved them. So they’re going to come out in sneaky ways when you’re trying to launch a group program or when you’re trying to manage now more clients because a one-to-many model, you’re going to be serving more people. So you need to clean this up now while you’re doing one-to-ones.

And the good news is when you’re doing one-to-ones, it’s such a simple, streamlined business model. And you can do it with a small audience while you’re growing and growing your audience and getting your business more visible.

So let’s go and break down these five areas so you can clean them up today.

Cleaning up Energy Leak #1: Not Managing Client Work

Okay, number one, not managing the client work. This is a big one for a lot of people. As wellness entrepreneurs, you have big hearts. You want to make sure your people are served. For me, I just love information and I’m a seeker. So I would sometimes fire hose people and try to give them all the information and all the things. And then I’d see that they’d be like a deer in headlights and I’m like, shoot, I got to summarize this. And now I ran out of time to write down their exercises or even I forgot to videotape their exercises because we went through it so fast. So now I got to videotape it for them and send it to them.

There were many reasons why I was doing a lot of work outside of client sessions. And it was all in compensation for this kind of goes with area number five, because of doubt. Doubt that I was giving enough, doubt that I was a worthy enough practitioner, doubt that I was skilled enough. So then I would try to overcompensate. Sometimes I just love the client so much, I would lose track of time and then we would run out of time for me to record exercises or write them down or summarize and get main takeaways. So there were many things going on here as to why I didn’t manage my client load, my one-to-one sessions well.

So what I started doing was just slowing down. I noticed, I became aware as to why I would start to fire hose someone. And when I would catch myself, I would just take some deep breaths and tell myself like they have many sessions or I can educate them on the benefit of working with me longer so they can get the information out over time. And I would remind myself, “If I just give them one to three key takeaways now, they’ll actually have a higher likelihood of implementing those. And then we can get to the next step the next time.” And I would just remind myself and slow myself down so I could adequately write down the steps of the homework that they needed to do right there in the session. I would summarize right there in the session and make sure they got the key takeaways.

I would video them right there in the session so I didn’t have to send or hunt down that exercise technique later on YouTube and send it to them or hunt through my video library and send it to them. Or I was able to individually cater the exercise because I use a lot of props through yoga with blocks and straps. And so some of the exercises were very unique for people. I didn’t have to re-record it. I could just write down the steps for them right there with me watching, which also gave them time to practice it right there.

They could ask me questions when they tried it on their own. I would write down the steps and they could again ask me questions if maybe they needed an additional step or I needed to break something down for them. It gave them the opportunity to succeed in whatever takeaways they were taking from that very session so they could implement it into their lifestyle more seamlessly.

So when I slowed down, it was not just for the benefit of me and helping me manage my client load, but it was also for them because also some of that overcompensation of firehosing was because I wanted to make sure that they got results and they had all the necessary information.

But if they’re not implementing what we talk about in sessions, then they’re not going to get results. So if I could slow down and simplify things and go over it and repetition with them in one session, then they had a higher likelihood of implementing it outside of sessions, which actually that is what got them better results.

Or I would slow down in the beginning of a session and really go into, “Okay, last session we talked about this and this. We talked over about this area that you were going to implement into your life, this homework or exercise you were going implement into your life. How did that go?” So I could figure out what their hangups were and get more into their lifestyle and their day-to-day, which actually sometimes is so much more helpful than the actual modalities that we want to teach them or the actual frameworks that we want to teach them.

And truthfully, those frameworks can be put in over time. That is what’s going to create the modules and the lessons for your on-demand group programs. So you can start, as those frameworks come to mind, you can actually record those outside of sessions for many people and then have those links accessible so you can reference them for your one-to-one people and give them those lessons and modalities over time. Those frameworks and those specific techniques that you want to teach people because you learn them and you know how beneficial they are.

The whole point of one-to-one is to really cater and customize to that individual’s needs, whether they need more repetition or whether they need to keep things simple or they don’t need a framework or don’t like a certain technique. So you really need to be flexible with what you’re teaching in a given moment.

And once I let go of that and just really focused on the person and knew that my frameworks were in a video and I could send them the video with the exercises or right now as I have now is I eventually had a Kajabi portal where I just put a whole bunch of stuff in there and in an organized way that they could go through on their own time, or I could take one concept of that framework that I could tell the individual was really struggling with and dive deep for them in one session, I didn’t have to rush through everything

So let me be practical and specific in what I mean here.  So let’s take a sciatic patient. If they were really struggling with very sticky fascia, for example, maybe they also have an autoimmune disease and I’ve had people with Hashimoto’s, for example, and the medication they’re on makes their fascia very sticky, for example. And so they really need to work on implementing fascia mobility through nervous system work, breath work, hydration and movement. I could see out of those areas, what area are they really getting stuck? So I had one client and he was forever not hydrating properly, which sounds very simple, drink water, right? But his was also having to do with an electrolyte balance as well. So we had to work with another practitioner to get electrolytes balanced. He had to get some supplements as well as just learn some for him life hacks. So he always has his electrolytes and water on standby so he can do what he needs to do as very busy professional, as well as perform well in his sport activities.

And so for him, we didn’t work too much on breathing. His breath was actually very diaphragmatic. He didn’t get stressed out and hold a lot of tension in his shoulders. It was more from a physiological standpoint and life hack standpoint, where I might have another individual where they have sciatica and back pain and they’re really stressed out. They actually hydrate well, their nutrition’s good, but their breathing is very shallow and they’re just constantly triggered and their nervous system is always on guard. So for them, I need to focus more on breath techniques and nervous system regulation, as well as nerve glides to get the fascia moving. So it’s not always tugging on the back, for example.

Now, when I first transitioned online, I had to figure out how to not use my hands to create the results, but how can I help these individuals through life hacks, through nutrition changes, through hydration, through teaching self-mobilization and breath work, restorative techniques, how can I help them mobilize their fascia, not just relying on my hands. And eventually I had a portal with all those facets in it, which they could go through in their own time, where if we didn’t cover nutrition, I could say, “We’ll get to that next week, and if you want watch it ahead of time in the portal, you can, but you don’t have to if you run out of time, because we’ll go over it together in sessions.”

And through working with people one-to-one in that fashion for a while, I really honed in on my portal to know which lessons I needed to include in my portal and what wasn’t so important and what areas I might’ve not thought I needed to include in the portal, but are actually crucial, which better prepared for group programs, utilizing that portal.

Where in a group you have less time with each individual, so you rely heavier on the videos and the lessons, but you won’t be able to rely on your lessons and your videos and your deliverables if you don’t feel confident in them, because you’ve never taken people through those processes through one-to-one to notice where people get stuck or where you need to elaborate more or the steps in the order of how things might need to go.

That’s all done through one-to-one and you learning how to manage your client load and getting efficient in each session. But you can see when you get efficient in each session and you get to see the patterns and you’re still able to work with a client very individually, then that’ll create the lessons, the modules, the deliverables for an online group or on-demand program that will be more effective.

Cleaning up Energy Leak #2: Taking Too Much Time In Between Sessions

Okay, number two, this one’s sometimes hard. You’re taking too much time in between sessions. So when I first started as a one-to-one practitioner, I thought I needed, I would schedule sessions that were an hour long, but every 90 minutes. So I had a half hour break in between sessions. And what ended up happening there was yes, I had felt like I had luxurious amount of time, but because of that, I didn’t manage my time in sessions well, so I was always going over sessions. Sometimes 75 minutes, sometimes I would do sessions that were an hour or 20, which is fine if you’re planning on doing an 80-minute session. But if you’re charging for a 60-minute session and really doing an 80 or a 90-minute session or even a 75-minute session, then you can start to resent your clients or your days are just so much longer and then you look at your revenue and it doesn’t match up. So you can feel very defeated and depleted.

So I had to figure out again, how to be effective with the time that I have and in sessions, how do I transition to wrapping up a session? How do I not, again, do client work outside of a session or if that’s why I’m running over because now I’m giving the exercises at the hour mark instead of at the 20 minutes to the hour mark and reviewing them.

How do I need to structure my sessions so I make sure that clients see change, get wins, feel results and know their takeaways from home all within and now I do it in 50 minutes. That comes from practice, trial and error and for me also noticing where I’m people pleasing and why.

But when you get your sessions ending on time, then for example, when I used to have three sessions if I was scheduling on 90 minutes or 75 minutes, you know it might be nine o’clock, 10:30 and then noon which ends at one o’clock which for only three sessions but now I do three sessions and it’s a nine o’clock, like a 10 o’clock and 11 o’clock, I’m done at 12 and so that’s a whole hour that I can now eat and rest and allow my brain to recharge so then possibly I can do two sessions in the afternoon at one and two or for me, my normal Tuesday is three sessions in the morning so 9, 10, 11.

I usually give myself an hour lunch break to recharge, to rest, sometimes I’ll post during then and then I even do a coaching call with one of my colleagues or with my own coach and then I have an afternoon session at two and three and so my day ends at four and I still feel like I have energy where either I can go to yoga or a walk before I pick up my daughter or sometimes I pick up my daughter and she likes to go to yoga with me and then we can enjoy our evening together.

But I’m not over exhausted, my jaw doesn’t hurt, I still have brain power, I don’t feel fried at the end of my day and I know I can go to bed and wake up on a Wednesday and repeat it again and I don’t dread it so when you get to that point then you can do one to ones forever and it’s so simple of a business model then it becomes hard to leave one to ones.

In fact, that’s kind of where I am now, I love my one to ones and I’m in no rush to move away from them, in fact I might not ever because I was able to manage that schedule of ending sessions on time and not needing a lot of filler time in between sessions.

Cleaning up Energy Leak #3: Teaching Too Many Weekly Yoga Classes

The other area that was a huge energy leak for me, number three, was teaching too many weekly yoga classes. I sometimes was teaching anywhere from 5-15 classes if I was picking up subbing classes or sometimes I had a roster of 10 normal classes and when you try to teach that many classes plus fit in private sessions, that can be really tiring especially as an introvert.

For me leading group classes was, it’s just one class was a big energy output because of how much it just upregulated or taxed my nervous system which was fine. Actually, teaching group classes was a great way to grow many different skill sets and better prepared me for my online group programs. However, I didn’t realize the energy output that it really required, meaning I underestimated how much recovery time I really needed to adequately replenish from all those classes. And it wasn’t till I let go of a good number of classes which was hard because I got a lot of leads from my classes that I realized the energy that really went into all those classes.

So it is an art, it is a balance to figure out how many classes are efficient in terms of building your audience, keeping leads coming in, if that’s where you’re primarily getting your leads and referrals from and how many classes are sustainable for you to teach in a way where you don’t feel exhausted day after day, week after week because of course you have to, when it comes to classes, if it’s not online or Zoom, you have to account in your drive time and then even if it is on Zoom, you have to account the planning time and then the energy output of the teaching time.

So I found that sweet spot to be one, maybe two, which may be very shocking, right? I love teaching, love, love teaching. However, for me, for my nervous system, how I work, when I teach more than that, I end my days, my weeks, feeling too exhausted and that’s the truth. So I had to figure out how to maximize that one class and this is what I really teach my clients if they’re wanting to reduce their class load and how to really leverage my workshops so I could keep the leads coming in and it worked fine. Plus, I had so much more energy, so, so much more energy.

Cleaning up Energy Leak #4: Working On Weekends

The other energy leak when I was doing one-to-ones that really exhausted me was working weekends and again, that could be just admin time. I can’t tell you when I slowly was cutting back, cutting back, cutting back, working weekends, I got to the point where I let go of my workshops on the weekends, I let go of my teacher trainings on the weekends and I was like, oh, okay, great, I have my weekends free and I would just subtly or slyly open up the MacBook on a Saturday or a Sunday just to work on a few things.

Must Read: Mastering SEO for Wellness Entrepreneurs: Your Key to Online Success

Next thing I know, a few hours had gone by and now the Saturday’s halfway over but I’m like, “It’s okay, I have a ton of time, all the rest of the day, Saturday and Sunday, I’ll replenish.” I can’t tell you though, because I did it through trial and error.

For me, personally, I can tell a big difference in my energy level if I take the whole weekend off completely. In fact, even now I do half day Fridays. So most of the day, Friday, all day Saturday, all day Sunday, don’t open the MacBook and come into Monday morning, I feel so refreshed and my energy stays with me full force, again, all the way through Friday when I’m done. I don’t have that Wednesday where I’m just dragging through Thursday and Friday. I feel on, I feel good quality throughout the whole entire week.

In fact, last weekend I had energy when I finished my Friday and it was beautiful out here in San Diego and there’s this really cool new community in our area. There’s a new housing development that has this shared community farm and live music and some craft beers and kombuchas. And I just randomly, spontaneously saw that it was one of the opening nights for this. And my husband was home, my daughter was home and she didn’t have a play day. And I was like, I just told them, I was like, “Hey, do you guys want to go to this? We can e-bike there and just spend some time and hang out outside.” And I had the energy to organize that, to kind of talk my husband into that because he’s pretty much a homebody. So if he doesn’t have to leave the house, he won’t.

So I had to put energy into selling it for him, to sell it to my daughter because of course she would want to be on the iPad all night, which of course I didn’t want her to be and especially because it was a beautiful day. So I had to put energy into selling them and organizing them on that so we could all get out of the house. And I had enough energy at the end of my week, which was busy to be able to do that even with one-to-ones, right? And we did! We went and they had a great time and my daughter wants to go back next week and my husband loved it as well because he’s a musician. So he was very much into music. So that can be a consistent thing that we can go to. And I feel like it can adequately fit into my schedule. I have the energy for that.

I remember in the past on Fridays, I would literally face plant into the couch and done, done, just on the couch reading a book or barely able to get up and get takeout food. I was fried. I’m not that way anymore. And it’s huge because I just feel like I am giving better quality in my sessions and I have more energy to spare. So I think over giving doesn’t necessarily mean that your people are getting results.

Okay, so as I hinted to, I was leading workshops and teacher trainings on the weekends. So I did have to figure out how to let those go because those were a big lead generation source for me and very scary to let go. And I knew that people wanted to come to my workshops mostly on weekends and teacher trainings are primarily on weekends. So some of the studios that I worked with, I don’t collaborate with them anymore because they only want someone teaching on weekends. And it was hard to break a decade long relationship with some of these studios that I had because they didn’t want to change the schedule so much, which is fine.

But I had to figure it out for myself and my own business because I was not their employee. I had my own business. I did figure that out as well. And for now, I did let go of teacher trainings. I have a strong nudge to do that as well. Just to let you know, I do have my own certification yoga therapy coming up, especially if you want to transfer your skills online. I will be launching that in the future. Right now, I’m just hiring staff to prepare for that so I can adequately support my one-to-ones and that group program. So that will be coming in the future because I really do miss teaching those practitioner skills. And I do get a lot of requests because I don’t see it being taught these days how to specifically transition your in-person skills online.

Plus, I taught in the Iyengar lineage. I taught, I learned from Iyengar teachers from Mr. Lyengar themselves. I learned from some of the great mentors and teachers and that information isn’t as accessible anymore because a lot of those teachers are retiring. And yoga and wellness has just gotten more modernized, which is great, but I still think there’s a lot of techniques in the use of props and certain mindset and coaching skills. And there’s a lot of breathwork techniques that might be missed out on only because there aren’t teachers teaching it anymore.

So I do want to bring, I’ve learned for so long, for 20 years as a wellness practitioner, I have a strong nudge to make sure that this information does get out into the community because I know how much it really benefits my own clients and patients. And I want you to have those resources as well. So that information is coming, but again, I am thinking big picture. I’m not trying to cram it into my business right now because that’s not sustainable.

So you have to think about that for yourself as well. You are only one person and only have so much energy a week. So you really need to prioritize. And it doesn’t mean that you’re saying no forever. It just means you’re saying no for now until you get more efficient because you will get efficient where things don’t take you as long. And like me, you’ll be hiring staff to better support you. So then your programs have better support as well.

Cleaning up Energy Leak #5: Mindset Work

Okay, and number five that kind of wraps all of this up is mindset work. Is noticing where your energy leaks are in one-to-one. Maybe it’s people pleasing. Maybe there’s an element of perfectionism going on. Where are you doubting yourself? And then not supporting yourself to down-regulate so that your nervous system is staying triggered day after day, and that itself becomes a pressure-filled energy leak.

So for you, it’s becoming aware of when your mindset wavers in sessions and why, and taking note. And that’s something I work with a lot of my clients on is getting more confident, learning how to be more efficient and effective. And so you have less doubt and triggers in your sessions as well as the second layer to this is making sure that you are down-regulating your nervous system consistently.

So what does that look like? It looks like tapping for me, sometimes in between sessions, sometimes during lunch, most of the time in the shower to just acknowledge what I’m feeling and why, journaling, going to my own yoga classes consistently, sometimes one to three a week, going on walks and just thinking. Sometimes I used to love to go on walks and always consume, consume podcasts, lessons that are in my own coaching programs that I’m part of, learning new information, always consuming, consuming.

But now I sometimes go for walks and I just maybe I put on music, maybe not. I just listen to the birds. I acknowledge what’s happening in my body, what I’m feeling and why, or I’m celebrating wins, whether they’re small or large. I’m acknowledging fears. I’m breathing through maybe a hard day, or if I did a presentation, I’m congratulating myself. I’m reviewing it. I’m just taking the time to integrate. And that has been huge in terms of waking up the next day and feeling energized to take on that day instead of waking up the next morning and feeling exhausted and tired to start the day.

Conclusion

Okay, so just to recap here, the simplest way to transition online, even if you’re a skilled practitioner, been doing one-to-ones in person for a long time for yourself or a company, is to just start with one-to-one online. And you don’t have to stay there a long time. Maybe it’s just a month, two months, three months, but you’ll learn so much from that that will enable you to scale, have more of a scalable offer online afterwards. And while you have those one-to-one sessions, noticing your energy leaks, so you fix your schedule now, create more free time and more energy now.

So again, that becomes a skill as you grow your business. And the five primary energy leaks that I solved for myself for one-to-one, so I can continue doing one-to-one now with a very manageable and sustainable schedule, loving my one-to-ones, is managing the client work for the sessions.

Number two, the timing of the sessions, making sure I’m not going over sessions or not having to put a lot of time in between sessions, noticing how many weekly classes I’m teaching and what is appropriate for my nervous system and my energy output, letting go of working weekends completely, both admin and any teaching or client work. And number five, the mindset.

Okay, so figure out, pick one, just one, because maybe you try to implement them all, that’s overwhelming. Just pick one, then save this blog and implement that one. Reach out to me if you get stuck and then come back and re-read the blog and pick out another and then do another. And that’s how you can get through them at all in a very sustainable way. Remember, it’s thinking big picture of your business, not trying to complete everything now because that’s just not sustainable. You’re in it for the long haul and this is a way how you can stay in it for the long haul.

All right, I’ll see you next week. Bye for now!

Hi, I'm Dr. Alison McLean, DPT

I believe wellness practitioners deserve to live the freedom they teach.

Not someday. Not after one more certification or one more full caseload. Now. We entered this work to help people heal — and somewhere along the way, we became the most burned out people in the room. Seeing clients back to back, skipping meals, missing family moments, quietly wondering if this is as good as it gets. What they didn't teach us in school is that the business model we inherited was never designed to give us freedom. It was designed to keep us busy. There's a version of your practice that doesn't require your sacrifice as the cost of admission. One where your income isn't capped by your calendar, your clients get your best, and you actually have a life outside the treatment room.

That's the world I'm building — and I'd love to help you build it too.
