How to Create Marketing That Makes Wellness Clients Say “Yes, She Gets Me”

Wellness practitioner creating marketing content on laptop showing client messaging strategy

You post regularly. You share educational content about gut health, nervous system regulation, and the importance of holistic wellness. You might even get likes and follows.

But when it comes to actually booking consultation calls or filling your programs? Crickets.

Here’s what most wellness practitioners don’t realize: your dream clients aren’t scrolling Instagram looking for an anatomy lesson. They’re looking for someone who understands their specific struggle and knows how to guide them toward relief.

The problem is, we’re taught to market like health textbooks instead of like healers. And that’s exactly why your content isn’t converting.

Today, I’m breaking down what I call Yes Frequency Marketing—a framework that transforms how wellness practitioners attract and convert clients through marketing that actually resonates.

What Is Yes Frequency Marketing?

Every client who works with you goes through a journey—whether they’re in a one-on-one session, group program, or online course. At each step of that journey, you want them to experience what I call “Yes Energy.”

When they see your marketing, they think: Oh yes, she gets me. I want to learn more.

When you’re selling on a consultation call, they think: Yes, I need this program.

And when they’re actually working with you, they think: Yes, this is exactly what I needed. She understands me.

This Yes Frequency shifts how you feel about every aspect of your business—marketing, selling, and delivering. Most practitioners excel at delivery because they’re confident in their skills and certifications. But marketing and selling? That’s where the dread creeps in.

Maybe it feels like self-promotion. Maybe social media feels like a waste of time. Maybe selling feels icky and slimy.

When you operate from Yes Frequency, those heavy feelings shift. You stop focusing on your fears and start being of service. And when people are in that Yes Energy in your DMs and inbox, your entire business transforms.

Why Most Wellness Content Doesn’t Convert

Let me be direct: your clients aren’t going to Instagram like it’s a library.

Yes, education has its place. Sharing what you know—the science, the techniques, the benefits—can build authority. But if that’s ALL you’re doing, you’re missing the layer that actually stops the scroll and converts followers into clients.

Instead of posting another carousel about the five stages of digestion or the anatomy of the pelvic floor, try this: talk about what your clients are actually feeling and experiencing in their day-to-day lives.

For example:

Generic education: “5 Ways to Reduce Anxiety Naturally”

Yes Frequency marketing: “That moment on a Sunday night when you find yourself stress-eating crackers at 10 PM while scrolling your phone—you’re not lazy. To the high achiever who knows she should prioritize sleep but lies awake mentally rehearsing tomorrow’s presentation, then zones out on her phone to escape the racing mind—overeating and scrolling aren’t weaknesses. They’re your body’s way of asking for deep nervous system support that goes way beyond green smoothies and meditation apps.”

See the difference?

One is generic advice anyone could Google. The other makes someone stop, read, and think: Wait, is she talking about me?

That’s Yes Frequency.

The 3 Core Elements of Yes Frequency Marketing

When your marketing operates on Yes Frequency, it does three specific things:

1. Recognition

Your client instantly recognizes themselves in what you’re sharing. They see their specific struggle, their exact daily experience, their internal dialogue reflected back to them.

2. Relief

They feel seen and understood—often for the first time. There’s no judgment, no shame, no criticism. Just deep resonance.

3. Readiness

They’re primed to take action because you’ve spoken directly to their truth. They’re ready to book a consultation call or download your lead magnet or follow you for more.

Think about the last time you bought something online—whether it was a course, a supplement, or a pair of jeans. The content that convinced you didn’t just list features. It made you feel understood. It painted a picture of your life WITH that solution.

That’s Yes Frequency at work.

What Changes When You Master Yes Frequency Marketing

Here’s what shifts when you start creating content from this place of deep resonance:

Your DMs Transform

Instead of constantly reaching out and trying to start conversations, people start thanking you. You get messages like, “I feel like you wrote this just for me” or “Did you write about me?” or even, “Can I book a 15-minute consultation call?”

Just yesterday, I got that exact DM—someone ready to book after reading one post.

You Work Less, Impact More

No more creating seven posts a week hoping something sticks. When you’re on Yes Frequency, one post can generate multiple consultation requests.

My client Sally went viral with one personal piece of content. She gained over 1,000 followers from that single post, and months later, people still DM her about it saying they feel heard and seen.

You Attract Your Exact People

Instead of everyone and their cousins sliding into your DMs asking about yoga for their grandmother’s hip when you specialize in postpartum anxiety, you start attracting the exact clients you’re meant to serve.

Your content becomes specific enough that the right people magnetize toward you.

Selling Becomes Natural

People come to consultations already primed. They understand what you do, how you help, and why you’re different. They’ve already resonated with your approach.

My client Jess struggled with consultation conversion. She was calling it a “free health coaching call” because she didn’t want to feel salesy. But people showed up unprepared to buy.

When we primed her audience better through content and emails and renamed it a “consultation,” her conversion jumped to 80%. She went from $4-5K months to a $9K month without adding more time to her schedule. She just refined what she was already doing.

Two Implementation Strategies You Can Use This Week

Strategy #1: The Mirror Method

This is about reflecting your client’s internal experience back to them with such accuracy that they feel like you’re reading their mind.

Most wellness practitioners post what their clients should DO. Yes Frequency marketing talks about what they’re FEELING and EXPERIENCING.

Here’s the key: you have to be specific.

Take 20-30 minutes this week and write down what your client is actually experiencing. Where is the real struggle, and WHY is it a struggle?

For example, if they have bloating and GI issues, why is that a problem? What are they experiencing day-to-day?

  • They might not be able to say yes to dinner dates because they’re petrified about what to eat
  • They don’t want to feel shame at dinner having to modify every menu item
  • They fear they’ll end up racing to the bathroom mid-meal or having to leave early
  • They worry about explaining their dietary restrictions to friends who don’t understand
  • They feel isolated from normal social experiences

That’s just ONE symptom and ONE scenario. Now think about their whole day—what happens at work, helping their kids, trying to sleep. That’s dozens of content ideas right there.

And it’s not about fear-based urgency (“If you don’t fix this now, it’ll get worse”). It’s about resonance. They see that post and think: Yes, that’s exactly what I’m going through. She understands.

Strategy #2: The Before-After Bridge

Paint a clear picture of life with the problem AND life after transformation. But not in the way you think.

Most people focus on practical before-and-after:

  • Before: Tired all the time
  • After: Energized

Yes Frequency marketing focuses on the emotional and identity transformation.

For example:

Before: You’re the wellness practitioner who’s amazing at helping others but secretly feels like a fraud because you can’t fix your own GI issues or overwhelm. You’re exhausted trying to keep up with posting, but nothing seems to work.

After: You’re the practitioner who’s learned to hold space for both your own humanity and your expertise. You’ve built a sustainable business that doesn’t require burnout, and you create deeper trust with clients because they feel your authentic realness and groundedness.

Here’s how to implement this:

Think about your most successful client transformation. Don’t just think about what changed in their symptoms. Think about:

  • How they felt about themselves
  • How they showed up differently
  • Who they were BEING in the world
  • What became possible for them

That’s your Yes Frequency gold.

Common Fears About Getting This Specific

“Won’t this alienate people who don’t relate to those specific scenarios?”

Here’s the truth: when you’re speaking specifically to your ideal client, you’re not going to repel others. You’re going to create content that’s sticky—content people remember and resonate with.

When you’re speaking to everyone saying, “I’ll help you with your health. You’ll feel better. We’ll get to the root problem,” people think: Oh, that sounds nice. I’ll get to her when I have time. Or money.

They can’t visualize what working with you actually looks like. They can’t see how those occasional symptoms are actually connected to a bigger problem.

But when you get specific? They understand why they need to take action now.

“This feels too vulnerable. What if I get it wrong?”

Remember, you’re not making up these experiences. These come from:

  • Client sessions
  • Consultation calls
  • Workshops and networking events
  • What you hear out in the community

You’re reflecting real scenarios back. And if you get it slightly wrong? Your clients will likely comment and correct you—which gives you MORE insight into their world.

That vulnerability is what creates connection. Your willingness to speak truthfully about struggle is what separates you from every other wellness practitioner posting generic motivational quotes.

What to Do When You’re Off Your Game

I’ll be honest: even using this approach, not every piece of content will hit.

Some weeks I’m on fire and I nail the messaging. My views go up, engagement increases, DMs flood in, consultations get booked.

Other weeks—maybe because my nervous system is activated, maybe I feel rushed on time—I lose the specificity. I fall back into generic education mode or fear-based urgency. And I can tell immediately because views drop, engagement decreases, fewer DMs come through, fewer consultations get scheduled.

It’s not that people suddenly don’t like my work. It’s just a reminder that I’ve slipped out of the messaging that resonates, and I need to get back into Yes Frequency.

So when it IS working, take note of what’s working:

  • What did you say?
  • What emotion did you tap into?
  • What identity shift did you speak to?
  • What specific symptoms or scenarios did you describe?

Write it all down because you can replicate it.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about practice and refinement.

Your Action Steps This Week

Marketing can be an act of service. Imagine what your business would feel like with more Yes Energy flowing through it daily.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Spend 20-30 minutes on the Mirror Method: Write down what your client is feeling, thinking, and experiencing when they’re struggling with the specific problem you solve. Get detailed. Get specific.
  2. Create one Before-After Bridge: Think of your best client transformation and write about the emotional and identity shift—not just the symptom change.
  3. Use these insights in your next piece of content: Whether it’s a social media post, email, or workshop description, bring that specificity and resonance into how you communicate.

Start noticing when content creates that Yes Energy in your audience. Double down on what works.

Hi, I'm Dr. Alison McLean, DPT

I believe wellness practitioners deserve to live the freedom they teach.

Not someday. Not after one more certification or one more full caseload. Now. We entered this work to help people heal — and somewhere along the way, we became the most burned out people in the room. Seeing clients back to back, skipping meals, missing family moments, quietly wondering if this is as good as it gets. What they didn't teach us in school is that the business model we inherited was never designed to give us freedom. It was designed to keep us busy. There's a version of your practice that doesn't require your sacrifice as the cost of admission. One where your income isn't capped by your calendar, your clients get your best, and you actually have a life outside the treatment room.

That's the world I'm building — and I'd love to help you build it too.
