You finally get someone on a consultation call. They’re interested. They have the problem you solve. They even marked on your intake form that they have the budget. But 30 minutes in, you can feel them pulling away. They start mentioning payment plans, saying they need to think about it, or suddenly bringing up concerns that weren’t there at the beginning.
Sound familiar?
Here’s what most wellness practitioners think when this happens: the person can’t afford it, they’re not ready, they’re not a good fit. You start ruling them out or beating yourself up. I’m not good at sales. My program isn’t what they want. My pricing is way off.
But here’s what’s actually happening: you’re trying to sell them from their current identity instead of speaking to who they can become.
Most sales training for wellness practitioners focuses on overcoming objections with logic, urgency, or social proof. But wellness clients aren’t making logical decisions on consultation calls. They’re making identity decisions. They’re asking themselves: Is this who I am? Is this possible for me? Can I actually do this?
If your sales conversation doesn’t help them shift their identity from someone who struggles with this problem to someone who can achieve the result, you’re essentially asking them to buy something that doesn’t fit who they really think they are.
What Is Yes Frequency Selling?
Yes Frequency is when you guide someone through an identity shift during your conversation so that by the end, working with you doesn’t just make sense logically—it feels inevitable. It’s the natural next step they can see clearly.
Instead of trying to convince them they need what you’re offering, you help them recognize that they’re already becoming the type of person who takes this kind of action for themselves.
When you’re operating in Yes Frequency, three things happen:
Identity Recognition: They start to see themselves as someone ready for this level of transformation.
Belief Shift: Their internal story changes from “I can’t” or doubt to “I can do this.”
Natural Alignment: Working with you starts to feel like an expression of who they’re becoming, not a departure from who they are.
This isn’t manipulation or high-pressure tactics. It’s identity activation. You’re not creating a new identity for them—you’re helping them connect with the version of themselves that’s already there and wants to emerge.
Why Traditional Sales Approaches Don’t Work for Wellness Practitioners
You’ve probably been taught that selling is about overcoming objections through logic, listing your credentials, or creating urgency. But when you focus solely on features and benefits, you miss what’s actually happening in your potential client’s mind.
When someone says “I’m not sure I can commit to this right now,” what they’re really saying is: I don’t see myself as the type of person who can do this kind of thing.
Or maybe they’re thinking:
- “I don’t finish programs a lot”
- “I’ve never done health coaching before”
- “Someone like me doesn’t invest this kind of money in myself”
- “My kids could use this money for their activities instead”
These aren’t objections about your program. These are beliefs about their own identity.
The wellness practitioners who struggle most with sales are often coming from a subtle scarcity mindset—wanting more revenue, needing validation that their program works, or desperately wanting to help more people. Because of that, they end up trying to convince someone to buy instead of helping them decide from a clean, non-attached place what’s truly the best decision for them.
The Identity Bridge Method: How to Transform Your Sales Conversations
The Identity Bridge Method helps your potential clients connect with who they’re becoming, not just what they want to fix.
Step One: Listen for Identity Statements During Your Intake
Many wellness practitioners spend consultation calls focused solely on symptoms: Tell me about your problem, how long it’s been going on, how it’s affecting your life. You need that information, but you also want to listen for the beliefs that will hold them back from saying yes.
They’ll tell you things like:
- “I’m not sure I have time to track all my food” (time objection)
- “I don’t think I can cut out dairy—I love cheese” (food objection)
- “I’m so busy racing around, I never finish anything” (self-belief objection)
When they say phrases like this during intake, get curious. Ask questions. Pull that thread. Often, you don’t have to say anything profound—just by questioning why, they’ll question themselves. Realizations and insights happen naturally, creating a window for the identity shift.
You might ask:
- “Tell me why you feel that way”
- “What’s really going on here?”
- “Who would you want to show up as six months from now?”
- “What would success look like for you?”
- “I can see that woman in you right now—what do you think she would say about this opportunity?”
This isn’t about having a script. It’s about being an active listener, staying curious, and allowing the natural questions to emerge. By bringing awareness to their patterns before you even talk about your program, you shift their identity before presenting your offer.
When you do this well, that time objection, that dairy objection, the self-doubt about finishing things—gone.
Step Two: Shift the Language from Problem to Transformation
Instead of asking “Do you think you can commit to a meal plan?” (which is filtering them out), try: “I hear that you’ve had trouble sticking to meal plans in the past. Tell me about that. Why is that?”
This opens the door for them to problem-solve with you. When you help them understand why previous attempts didn’t work, they can believe, “Oh, I actually can stick to meal plans. I’m going to move forward.”
For example, I have people come to consultation calls saying “I actually really hate Instagram.” I respond, “Oh yeah, I hear that a ton. Why is that?” We talk about it, and then I’m able to provide different perspectives they haven’t considered. They can try those perspectives on and say, “Actually, yeah, I want to try that because I’ve been hearing and seeing friends on Instagram who are successful, and I want that for myself too.”
Another shift: instead of “Are you ready to invest in your health?” try “It sounds like you’ve been having difficulty staying consistent with your self-care. Tell me what’s been happening.”
They’ll unload the real obstacles—maybe they have a baby who’s colicky, or a child with special needs, or aging parents who need care. These aren’t objections about not valuing your program. These are real-life roadblocks. They need someone to help them figure it out.
As a practitioner, you need to think beyond just delivering protocols. These are human beings with complex lives. When you help them problem-solve their actual life circumstances, that’s when they start seeing results—starting from the very first consultation.
I can’t tell you the number of physical therapists who get frustrated when patients don’t do their home exercise programs. But there are far fewer who actually take the time to ask: “What’s going on? Tell me about your schedule. What are you really feeling about this exercise program?”
Maybe you gave them ten exercises in the first evaluation—that’s overwhelming. It might be your approach causing the issue, not their lack of commitment. You never know until you ask them. Develop that compassion because you genuinely want to help people. That’s why you became a practitioner in the first place.
Step Three: Watch for the Physical Shift
When you’ve facilitated that identity shift, you’ll literally see their body language change. I’ll see someone go from being closed off, leaning back, furrowed brow—to suddenly sitting tall, lit up, excited when they realize “Oh my gosh, I can do that. I can make that shift. That feels totally doable.”
And then when you tell them the plan you’ll work on together, they respond with “Yes, that’s exactly what I need.” They’re in the Yes Energy.
This transformation happens through those two shifts: helping them identify where they are, then helping them step into becoming that new identity through problem-solving and asking questions from genuine curiosity—not from feeling like you have to convince, manipulate, or filter people out.
Real Results from Identity-Based Selling
I remember a wonderful Yes Frequency consultation call several months ago with a client who’s working with me now. When I gave her the plan of what we’d be doing together, she said, “Oh my gosh, I’ve been manifesting a coach like you.” She’d been really hoping and trying to find a coach exactly like me. That’s Yes Frequency.
Recently, I had someone crying on a sales call—tears of relief and recognition. In her first few sessions, she had so much doubt, fear, anxiety, and stress stored deep down. When things started resonating and she started shifting her belief in what’s possible for her and believing in herself that she can do it, all that stored tension just started coming out.
My client Jess had been calling her sales calls “free coaching calls” because she didn’t think people wanted sales calls, and she didn’t like them either. What ended up happening was she was doing a lot of free coaching that wasn’t converting to clients, and that was becoming a drain. She started to doubt things in her business.
But she was a very talented practitioner, and the dancers in her world really needed her program. All we did was change the structure of what she was doing within the sales calls and shift her identity—her belief that people wanted what she had to offer. She had to believe that and guide them through the process of ensuring it was a good fit.
She went from $4-5K months to consistent $9K months. She was able to buy her dream home with her husband and daughter. She didn’t have to add more hours to her schedule. She just shifted how she was marketing her consultations and her own identity and beliefs, which enabled her potential clients to shift their identity and beliefs.
When you do this process, objections start to dissolve naturally. When someone sees themselves as ready for change, concerns about time, money, and capability start to feel like old stories rather than current reality.
What If They’re Not Ready for This Identity Shift?
That’s actually perfect information. Not everyone who comes to a sales call is a yes—and that’s okay. Maybe they really aren’t ready. Maybe they can’t connect with the vision of who they’re becoming yet. Maybe they aren’t truly ready for transformation.
Through this process, the truth emerges, and they get to decide. Do they want to step into it and be a yes, or can they honestly say no?
You’ve just saved yourself months of working with someone who would have struggled with commitment and potentially blamed you for their lack of results. You help them make a clean decision because you’re coming from a clean place—not trying to force or manipulate someone into the program, and not filtering them out based on assumptions.
How This Changes Everything
When you master this approach, your sales calls transform. Instead of feeling like you’re interviewing them or trying to prove your worth by listing certifications, they become collaborative conversations about transformation.
People hang up feeling inspired regardless of whether they enroll. I’ve had so many sales calls where someone comes to me with doubt about their program in different ways. I validate their program and their offer on the consultation call, helping them shift their own identity. Sometimes I get a message 24-48 hours later saying, “Hey, I just signed a client. You shifted my belief in my program.”
They didn’t do anything different. They didn’t even officially start working with me. They just shifted their identity and belief, and they signed a client. That can happen for you too.
When you’re doing this well:
Selling becomes a service. You stop feeling like you’re pushing, convincing, or manipulating and start feeling like you’re offering exactly what someone needs to step into their next level.
You’ll market your consultations differently. You’ll start promoting your discovery calls, consultations, and programs with genuine excitement because you feel really good about them. You won’t feel icky or slimy thinking “Ugh, now I have to get on a call and try to convince someone.” Instead, you’ll think “This is such an amazing opportunity for them. I can’t wait to help start the transformation.”
Your close rate improves dramatically. When you help people see themselves differently, they say yes to working with you because it aligns with who they’re becoming.
Your Next Steps: Practicing Yes Frequency Selling
For your next sales conversation, practice these three things:
- Get curious about what’s really going on. Connect with them about their current situation and why they’re stuck there. Don’t just collect symptom information—listen for identity statements and beliefs.
- Help them envision who they want to become. Ask about who they want to show up as six months from now. What would success look like? What’s really standing in the way of that, and why?
- Stay in genuine curiosity. Keep asking “Why is this happening?” or “I’m curious—tell me more about that.” You’ll be amazed at what emerges when you simply hold space for exploration rather than jumping to solutions.
This approach takes practice. It might not click immediately, but it’s so worth the effort. The more you practice staying present, actively listening, and getting curious, the more natural it becomes.
