How to Make 2026 Your Breakthrough Year as a Wellness Entrepreneur (Strategic Investment + Intuition)

Table of Contents

The start of a new year brings fresh possibilities for wellness entrepreneurs. After a week off in Florida—scheduled social media posts running automatically, emails pre-written, barely checking Instagram—there was time for reflection on what 2025 created and what 2026 could become.

The results from 2025 were remarkable: helping clients generate over a million dollars in wellness revenue collectively. Seven clients hit their first or repeat six-figure years. Others came close at $90,000 in annual revenue.

That’s not just about money—it’s about the ripple effect. Wellness practitioners helping people improve health so they show up more productively at jobs, earn raises, feel better in their bodies, bring more energy to parenting and relationships. Clients helping people with career navigation, promotions, spiritual connection, life purpose fulfillment.

The ripple effect is profound.

For 2025, revenue reached the highest it’s ever been—solidly into multiple six figures. That meant helping more people simultaneously than ever before. A VA working 15 hours weekly will increase hours in 2026. SOPs will be refined so clients feel more supported, freeing up focus for strategy and mindset coaching rather than getting bogged down in support requests.

New problems to solve. New capacity to build. This is what breakthrough years look like.

So what would a breakthrough year look like for you?

Maybe it’s finally hitting your first six-figure year. Maybe it’s working 30 hours weekly instead of 50 while making more money. Maybe it’s having a waitlist of dream clients instead of constantly hustling for the next session. Maybe it’s launching that online program you’ve thought about for years—or finally getting clients enrolled and taking pressure off your body while gaining location freedom.

Whatever it is, take a moment and imagine it for yourself. You want it. You’re ready for it.

But here’s what no one tells you about breakthrough years: They don’t happen just because you finally figure out the exact perfect strategy.

Understanding what actually creates breakthrough years versus what keeps practitioners stuck at the same revenue level year after year is essential knowledge. Learning how to combine strategic investment with intuitive action is what separates those who break through from those who stay plateau’d.

The Truth About Breakthrough Years

After being in multiple masterminds, working with numerous coaches, having many entrepreneur friends, and observing colleagues in containers, one pattern is clear: there’s no one right strategy.

Breakthrough years don’t happen because you consume more free content. Entrepreneurs hitting breakthrough years and progressing forward are investing in containers—not just consuming free information.

And they definitely don’t happen because you manifest harder. Yes, you want to manifest, feel it, have energy shifts in your body. But it’s the combination of feeling it, shifting energy, manifesting, believing—AND having strategy.

Breakthrough years happen when you make one critical decision: You decide to invest in expert guidance AND you decide to trust your intuition throughout the process.

It’s that powerful combination. Not expert guidance OR intuition. Both at the same time.

The Pattern of Those Who Actually Break Through

After coaching countless wellness entrepreneurs, having numerous conversations with practitioners, and growing two businesses—one to six figures, one to multiple six figures—a pattern emerges.

The ones who actually have breakthroughs aren’t the ones with the most certifications. They’re not the ones who know the most either.

They’re the ones willing to follow a system while still honoring what their gut tells them.

It doesn’t mean following that system perfectly or exactly. It’s using it as a guideline, a roadmap, with intuition as the compass.

Some practitioners worry: “If I hire a coach and follow their system, won’t I lose my authenticity? Won’t I just become a copy of every other wellness practitioner online?”

This is exactly what needs unpacking, because the path to your breakthrough year requires understanding something that sounds contradictory but is actually a hidden secret:

You need structure to set your intuition free.

Structure provides safety and sufficiency. When you have a proven system you trust and deep belief in it, that safety and sufficiency give you confidence to set your intuition free. You begin trusting creativity, creating more self-belief, trying things out, knowing some might fail—and that’s okay because failure is part of the process.

When your plan takes longer than hoped, when you do fail, it doesn’t mean you’re not cut out to be an entrepreneur. It means you’re taking steps forward.

Consider this: A revenue goal was set four or five years ago—the amount of revenue, working specific hours, with specific business structure. That goal was finally hit in 2025.

Imagine quitting at year three, saying “I’m not cut out for this, I’m taking too long, something must be wrong with me or my business.”

None of those things were true. It just meant the nervous system wasn’t ready for that goal at that time. A lot of work with counselors, therapists, one-to-one coaches, and masterminds was needed. Inner work had to happen alongside continuing to test strategies that felt comfortable and right.

Also critical: doing this sustainably. Taking holiday breaks, enjoying time with family, having weekends free—these aren’t luxuries when you understand sustainable business growth.

Many wellness entrepreneurs struggle with balancing ambition with sustainability, especially when consuming content from coaches who advocate extreme work hours. Understanding how to grow your practice sustainably without sacrificing health, family time, or personal wellness practices is what creates businesses that last decades, not just years.

The Work Ethic Conversation

There’s a popular business coach who gets up at 4 AM, works most weekends, and promotes the “early bird gets the worm” mentality. His content often conveys: if you want to be a winner, you need to work hard.

There’s truth in that. Entrepreneurship requires work ethic. It’s not easy—if it were, everyone would have six-figure, multiple six-figure, million-dollar businesses. It requires growth edges, inner work, doing strategies that feel uncomfortable (like marketing, showing up on social media, selling). It requires showing up consistently with strong work ethic.

All of that is true.

But he doesn’t have children. He’s not a mom. If he were a dad, perhaps some messaging or strategy might be different.

Maybe faster growth was possible working more hours. But here’s what’s been proven true: when working 60+ hours weekly, revenue was actually much less. Now, being more efficient with better nervous system regulation, showing up differently and bolder, with years of messaging practice and better content—more money comes in less time. Client support is more efficient than in the past, so pricing reflects that differently too.

Everyone grows in different ways. Hours showing up to business don’t always equate to more revenue. However, when you’re efficient, optimized, maximized, and making good money, showing up more CAN lead to more revenue. It’s not black and white.

If an extra $25,000-$50,000 in revenue came from working more evenings and weekends but missing moments with family, burning out, showing up to client calls tired and drained, starting to resent the business—that wouldn’t be winning.

That’s where intuition comes in. You can follow some strategies from any coach but don’t have to follow everything exactly. You can disagree with some things while implementing others.

For example, paying for Voxer access with a long-term mastermind coach (going on the fourth year, she knows the business intimately) creates a relationship where uncomfortable strategies can be implemented after checking in with intuition: Is this uncomfortable because it’s a growth edge, or is it not the right strategy and needs more discussion to find something more aligned?

It’s been coaching in numerous containers with numerous coaches that created the breakthrough year.

If You Ended 2025 Feeling Disappointed

If 2025 ended with disappointment, it’s okay. It took five years to hit that one goal. Progress happened during other years—it just wasn’t exactly where it needed to be yet. Another goal is now set. Will it be hit next year? Maybe not. But the work continues until it’s achieved.

If you felt disappointment, here’s what it’s probably NOT: It’s probably not because you didn’t work hard enough. Most wellness practitioners have incredible work ethic—teaching 15 classes weekly, stacking back-to-back patients and clients, showing up, trying new things.

If you’re still not where you want to be, this message is for you.

The mindset required for 2026 to be your breakthrough year is NOT “I can figure this out myself, all alone.”

The mindset required for a breakthrough year is: “I’m willing to invest in proven guidance while trusting myself through the process.”

What that proven guidance looks like varies—group container, one-to-one, program, therapist, counselor (not even business-related). You have to figure out the bottleneck, the problem, the sticking point actually causing the block preventing your breakthrough year.

Trust your intuition about what comes up there, then find a program or person to help you get through it.

That’s literally what happens year after year. That’s what clients are helped to do. The ones who come with that awareness—or figure it out on a consultation call where it’s revealed: “Here’s what you’re trying, here’s why it’s not working, here’s what you need, here’s the solution”—those who go all in on that solution or who say “I’ve tried X, Y, Z, I’m still fearful because I’ve invested in other coaches and programs without getting where I wanted, but I have this desire and trust with myself to figure it out with help”—those are the ones who do really well.

Learning to identify the real bottleneck in your business (not just symptoms) is a skill that compounds dramatically. Understanding whether you need strategy, mindset support, or nervous system work determines which investment will actually create breakthrough results.

The Three Blocks Keeping You Stuck

Block #1: The DIY Trap

You think you should be able to figure it out yourself because you have multiple certifications, maybe a doctorate or master’s degree. You’re smart. You’ve been a practitioner for multiple years. You don’t want to pay someone to tell you what to do.

So you piece together free content. Watch YouTube tutorials. Download lead magnets. You have 47 tabs open and a folder full of PDFs you never implemented. Or you bought low-ticket programs, implemented some of it, but you’re still stuck.

That’s because you haven’t had someone actually look at YOUR business and give YOU your unique strategy while listening to YOUR personal blocks to guide you on the mindset and strategy you really need—so then you can trust your intuition more.

Block #2: The “When I’m Ready” Myth

You tell yourself:

  • “I’ll invest in a program when I’m making more money”
  • “I’ll hire a coach when I have a bigger audience”
  • “I’ll join that mastermind when I feel more confident”

Here’s the truth, proven time and time again: You have to invest to get to that next level. You have to invest first.

Often when it feels really uncomfortable. The investment comes before you feel ready, not after. That’s literally how breakthroughs work.

When starting a business, you have to learn how to run a business. School might teach foundational things in certifications, but it’s often not enough to get to that six-figure year or livable revenue you can actually live on.

In the beginning, this wasn’t understood. After being fired from a job with very little savings and no plan to start a business, requests from past patients created burning desire to try. The leap of faith led to starting the business.

That’s NOT recommended. Yes, the first year was profitable—$48,000 in revenue (good percentage from teaching classes, more from patients). But in San Diego, most of that went to bills. To learn all the skills needed, investments had to be made in masterminds—often scrambling or putting them on credit cards.

If you can save to start your business or have a job paying personal bills so you can reinvest business revenue back into learning how to run it—to get to six figures, then multiple six figures where you’re earning enough to pay for investments in cash AND bills—you’ll get there. But you do have to invest.

It’s tricky. Not everyone has the same risk tolerance. Low-interest pandemic loans were taken out to pay for investments (now completely paid off, some debt still being paid down). That’s okay because now there’s a business generating revenue that covers bills and more, with trust that debt will be paid down.

You might not have that same risk tolerance. You have to figure out how to make an investment work to get the skills, knowledge, or nervous system capacity needed to show up differently and reach that breakthrough year.

If you’re waiting until you’re ready, that’s often where you stay stuck—repeating the same year of back-to-back patients, teaching lots of classes, stuck in a job only seeing clients here and there, not breaking through $1-2K revenue or $3-5K revenue marks.

Block #3: Intuition Paralysis

This is sneaky. You want to follow your intuition. You don’t want to become another cookie-cutter online wellness coach doing what everyone else does. So you wait. Hesitate. Second-guess every strategy, thinking “Is this really me or am I just copying what someone else is doing?”

You really want to trust your intuition. Because of this, your intuition becomes an excuse for inaction instead of a guide for aligned action.

Here’s what’s actually true: Your intuition is incredible. But sometimes it’s hard to discern whether intuition is helping you through a growth edge (which feels uncomfortable) or if what you think is intuition is actually just your nervous system trying to keep you safe in what’s known and familiar.

Stepping outside feels uncomfortable, so you think it’s the wrong action. You say “My intuition says no, I shouldn’t do this because it doesn’t feel good.” But it’s actually not your intuition—it’s your nervous system. See the difference?

It’s hard to discern that on your own without a coach, counselor, or therapist to help you objectively see what’s happening.

Here’s the truth: If your intuition knew how to build you a six-figure online wellness business, you would have it right now. If you knew how to grow Instagram or show up consistently there, you would be doing that right now.

That’s why you need both. This isn’t just a plug to join one program—it might be a counselor or therapist to help process trauma or develop capacity for confidence, trust, and belief that you can do this. It might be another program entirely.

The point is: when you’re trusting intuition but it might actually be nervous system trying to keep you safe, or you’re relying on intuition that doesn’t know the strategy to get you beyond where you are now—combining your intuition with someone further ahead or expert in where you’re stuck, having that expert guidance show you the proven path, might be the answer you really need.

Understanding the difference between intuition guiding you toward growth and fear disguised as intuition is one of the most valuable skills you can develop. Learning to recognize when discomfort signals growth versus misalignment accelerates decision-making and prevents years of staying stuck.

Three Scenarios Where Entrepreneurs Slow Themselves Down

Scenario #1: The Researcher Forever Researching

Some practitioners are research junkies. This is a growth edge where investments have had to be made, pushing to invest or getting coaching in containers and pushing to do the coaching instead of just researching and consuming.

You’ve been researching how to build an online program for 18 months. You know all the terminology, understand all concepts, know different types of programs (memberships, online programs, DIY, group coaching containers). But you haven’t actually built anything because you keep thinking “I need to learn more first.”

The truth: You don’t need more information. You need implementation support. You need someone to say “Stop researching and start building. Get out there, get messy, try it, fail, learn from that, and keep going.”

Scenario #2: The Investment Avoider

Every time you see a program that could help, you find a reason it won’t work. Or the investment feels too high, so you try to find another program that’s similar but not exactly right—and you don’t get exactly the right result.

Clients have come to consultation calls scared to invest. Truthfully, there have been times where jumping off consultation calls too quickly (not wanting to push them) was a disservice. They didn’t receive the confidence or safety to believe the program was worth investment, so they invested in cheaper programs hoping to get the same results.

Then they come back a year later saying “I’m actually ready to invest with you now. I didn’t get quite the results I wanted in that other program.” Many got benefits—not complete wastes—but just not exactly where they wanted to be. They wanted to be further along.

They’re glad they finally invested properly. They say “This is actually what I need.”

It’s challenging when you’re avoiding investing because it feels uncomfortable, and it’s also about trusting intuition on knowing when you’re ready versus when you’re just avoiding.

Scenario #3: The Strategy Hopper

Clients come to consultation calls saying they’ve tried so many things. Any of those things could have worked—they just didn’t stick to any one thing long enough to see it through.

That quitting pattern is actually what slows them down most.

When you have guidance combined with intuition, they work together beautifully to keep you going and move you through stuck points.

The Three Essential Components of Breakthrough Mindsets

Component #1: Strategic Investment

Find the problem that’s the bottleneck in your business right now—whether it’s nervous system or not having the right unique strategy aligned with where you want to go and what’s actually happening in your business now (audience size, goals, revenue targets, available time to work—all puzzle pieces where you just haven’t had the right strategy to make it work yet). Or there might be nervous system blocks.

Figure out that strategic investment that will solve the biggest problem causing that bottleneck.

Be specific:

  • Not: “I want to grow my business”
  • Instead: “I need to learn how to create a high-ticket wellness offer that’s online, ethically combining my physical therapy license and yoga certifications, and I need help creating and selling that”

Or: “I need a proven system for using Instagram to generate consultation requests instead of hoping people will find me. I already have the program, I’ve sold it in person through workshops. But now I want to figure out Instagram specifically.”

Or: “I need to know how to run workshops that convert attendees into paying wellness clients—both online and in-person—and I want someone who can help me with that.”

Component #2: Intuitive Application

This is where most wellness entrepreneurs get confused. They think following a system means copying it exactly, doing everything the coach says without question, abandoning their own wisdom.

That’s not how it works.

For example: One coach’s strategy emphasizes free webinars. But charging $7 for workshops works better personally. It allows staying with attendees for two hours, giving genuine value—not just a taster requiring program enrollment to get anything useful.

It’s important that anyone showing up to workshops/webinars leaves with tangible takeaways that get them a small or even larger win right then. Yes, the hope is they’ll work in bigger containers, but their time showing up should be valuable immediately.

Charging a little and staying longer ensures those wins and takeaways. It feels more aligned and confident.

It’s different than the coach’s webinar strategy, but taking the risk and going rogue resulted in show-up rates and conversion rates out of the park—so much so that the coach said “Actually, that’s the right strategy for you” and is now behind it.

But there’s still coaching on it: “Is this still the right strategy for me?” She helps with workshop titles, the three steps being taught, so much that helps with conversion. Still getting lots of coaching and guidance within that unique strategy.

Take a framework and apply it through your lens, voice, values, specific clients, and results you want for them. Your intuition doesn’t have to fight a system—it guides you how to apply the system.

Component #3: Coached Implementation

This is the game changer. This is often why practitioners stay stuck and breakthrough years don’t happen.

Moving from DIY free content to having a coach lay out a system or proven strategy is step one. But most importantly: if you’re not following the strategy even when it feels aligned, or you’re trying a strategy that’s not working, you have a coach there to say:

“The strategy is solid, but your messaging is off here. Here’s how to adjust.”

That’s essentially what happens on all coaching calls: guiding clients initially on their unique strategy (whether in group programs or one-to-one), but if they’re slow to implement, working on nervous system or mindset to understand blocks so they can show up and implement—or refining the strategy.

Refining messaging. Refining the program. Refining the type of marketing.

Sometimes clients think they don’t want to be on Instagram, only wanting referrals and networking. Then after getting confidence marketing in person, they say “Actually, now I’m ready for Instagram.” So the marketing strategy refines.

Or they start abandoning a strategy that was working—they have marketing, messaging, the program, but aren’t seeing results fast enough so they think about abandoning everything. A coach tells you: “Don’t give up on this. Keep going. You’re actually closer to a breakthrough than you think.”

Countless clients have come to consultation calls saying they’ve tried so many things. Any of those could have worked—they just didn’t stick to any one thing long enough to see it through. That quitting pattern is what slows them down.

When you have guidance combined with intuition, they work together beautifully to keep you going and move through stuck points.

Understanding when to refine a strategy versus when to completely pivot is nuanced wisdom that comes from experience and outside perspective. Having a coach who can objectively assess your situation prevents the costly mistake of abandoning strategies right before they would have broken through.

Implementation Strategies for Your Breakthrough Year

The Three-Question Investment Filter

Before investing in any coaching program, ask yourself:

Question #1: What is the specific problem I want solved?

Don’t say “I want to grow my business” (too vague).

Specific sounds like:

  • “I need to learn how to create a high-ticket wellness offer that’s online, ethically combining my PT knowledge/license and yoga certifications, and I need help creating and selling that”
  • “I need a proven system for using Instagram to generate consultation requests instead of hoping people will find me. I already have the program and have sold it in person through workshops, but now I want to figure out Instagram specifically”
  • “I need to know how to run workshops that convert attendees into paying wellness clients—both online and in-person—and I want someone who can help me with that”

Get clear on the specific problem first.

Question #2: Does this coach’s approach align with my values?

This is where intuition comes in. Do you resonate with how they show up? Do their clients’ results match what you want? Does their teaching style work for your learning style?

Example: If you value simplicity and sustainability, get overwhelmed easily with tech, then a coach teaching complex funnels with lots of automations and Facebook ads—intuition is going to fight that. It might not be the right strategy for you.

Clients have invested in programs where the selling strategy was completely through ads with no organic marketing strategies taught. They got overwhelmed by tech easily, had no plans to run ads, didn’t have budget/revenue to pay for ads. It wasn’t the right fit.

They came for help with organic strategies to sell programs, make more money, gain confidence, understand tech more—then they were ready to invest in ads.

Question #3: Am I ready to implement within 30 days?

This is an honesty check. If you’re about to invest but don’t know if you’ll have time to implement, this can go either way.

Figure out honestly if you have the time. If going through major life circumstances—like grieving a loss—that’s not the time to invest in business coaching. It’s the time to invest in a therapist to help through the grieving process or spiritual coaches for other support.

When going through cancer treatment, investment happened in both: business coaching to learn sustainability and growth without sacrificing health or family time, AND health/wellness practitioners to help through that time.

Check in with yourself about time, because often a good investment might be a coach who can help you CREATE more time.

Client Julie came wanting to retire in a few years. She was a coach who’d tried many things, felt she wasn’t creating desired profit, wanted to spend more time with grandkids and put more into savings for retirement.

The work created her personal strategy using everything she’d invested in as stepping stones, then made it unique for her. She got her proven strategy and strong intuition about what aligned. She greatly reduced working hours.

She says: “I doubled my revenue and cut the time I was working in half.”

Many times, the coach you invest with can help you create more time. You need to know: Is this the right time for me to invest to learn how to be more efficient with my time? Or is it a time where I need to focus on personal health or life circumstances?

Only you can decide by checking in with yourself to determine why—so you know when is a good time to invest and what you might want to invest in.

Your Breakthrough Year Action Plan

Depending on when this is being read, you can get into the Revenue Shift workshop to help work through bottlenecks and plateaus. The 100K Online Practice Blueprint helps with this process, as does one-to-one coaching.

If you want to know your next best step, book a consultation call. The bottleneck will be identified—the problem that, if solved, can help launch your business into that breakthrough year.

Because 2026 should be your biggest year in a sustainable way.

Ready to Create Your Breakthrough Year?

If you’re tired of repeating the same revenue year after year, ready to invest strategically in guidance while honoring your intuition, and committed to making 2026 the year everything shifts, book a consultation to identify your specific bottleneck and the investment that will solve it.

Your breakthrough year is waiting. The question is: are you ready to invest in making it happen?

Hi, I'm Dr. Alison McLean, DPT

I believe wellness practitioners deserve to live the freedom they teach.

Not someday. Not after one more certification or one more full caseload. Now. We entered this work to help people heal — and somewhere along the way, we became the most burned out people in the room. Seeing clients back to back, skipping meals, missing family moments, quietly wondering if this is as good as it gets. What they didn't teach us in school is that the business model we inherited was never designed to give us freedom. It was designed to keep us busy. There's a version of your practice that doesn't require your sacrifice as the cost of admission. One where your income isn't capped by your calendar, your clients get your best, and you actually have a life outside the treatment room.

That's the world I'm building — and I'd love to help you build it too.
